The sun is shining (or it will be), the birds are singing (I suppose - too cold to open the windows right now), and spring is in the air (see previous parentheses.)
It happens to be my favorite season, and this week I continue to play in the dirt in my yard, watching little green tips emerge from their winter slumber. YAY!!
My mom would recite:
Spring had sprung and fall has fell,
Now it’s summer and it’s hotter than… usual.
As for flowers, I’ve got daffydils, crocus, and a few miscellaneous blooms that I don’t recognize. I’d ordered a mixed bag of bulbs and planted them thither and yon - there are assorted surprises in my yard! I shall have a lot of tulips soon, and (I hope) a crop of Asian lilies. We shall see…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 53 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 77 and N.O.S.ish for the day. Could be more cloudy than N.O.S. or more N.O.S. than cloudy. TWPTB are all willy-nilly today apparently. Cleanin’ lady comes around nine this mornin’. Yay for that! We are lovin’ havin’ someone else spiffin’ da cave. No regrets on that at all! Sup shall be leftover bbq from yestiddy.
Spring makes me sneezy, especially oak and pee-kahn pollen. I can deal however cause Spring means warm weather. I detest cold weather, so yay for that!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I must also make myself somewhat presentable before cleanin’ lady arrives, I suppose.
I suppose that since I live a stones throw from Stratford upon Avon I should quote some Shakespeare.
When daisies pied and violets blue And lady-smocks all silver-white And cuckoo-buds of yellow hue Do paint the meadows with delight, The cuckoo then, on every tree, Mocks married men; for thus sings he: “Cuckoo; Cuckoo, cuckoo!” O, word of fear, Unpleasing to a married ear!
Spring has sprung but I haven’t been able to enjoy it. This cold has well and truly kicked my butt. I thought I was feeling much better yesterday (and I was), but this morning I woke up feeling like utter crap. I am wondering too if I have veered off into a sinus infection. Ugh, that would suck. I drink a lot of water anyway but will amp up how much so I can keep things a little less thick if you know what I mean. I’m coughing more too, but I’m sure that’s due to drainage. Ugh. I just want to feel normal again, damn it.
I would love a cleaning lady, but I would feel obliged to clean the house before she got here, so what would be the point of having a cleaning lady?
I’d only want a cleaning lady who’d do the heavy stuff that I hate doing, but in the past, cleaners we’ve hired only do the easy stuff. No one moves furniture to vacuum, no one dusts baseboards, in fact, no one would do more than a token swipe at cleaning. I can do that myself, thanks.
Oddly enough, except for dusting (blech) I don’t mind household chores. Is that a sign of approaching senility???
Between being sick Tuesday and the leave I took for MIL’s funeral and such, today will be the first trip to Hades Annex in a week. Wonder how much crazier things have gotten.
Nettie, you know better…never tempt fate by asking “how bad could it be…” Take care.
{Taters}, I usually get one cold during the winter that knocks me for a loop for a couple of days, but it hasn’t happened yet (fingers crossed). Take care.
FCM, glad you get an array of flowers; I’ve never been good with them and outside of a few fancy-dressed felines (dandelions), I settle for grass and pay Tru-Green to take care of the weeds.
Spring in N. Ali-bama today; nearly 72F and clear; so is the rest of the week, when we have a 40-60% chance of rain Tuesday-Thursday. I plan to mow my lawn for the first time come April 1st/2nd, because I refuse to start mowage in March.
Need to do the Moanday store run and pickup the Jersey Mike’s sammich in a little bit, but will catch up on things on-line first. All y’all have a good week now.
It’s warm & sunny in western Mitten State today, although the oracles have warned that TWPTB have rain on the way later this week.
Fine by me - everything will sprout/bloom/grow after some warm rain!
Boy, have I got a thread for you!
I crashed stupid early last night, and essentially sent myself to bed without any supper. So I’m contemplating treating myself to breakfast out - it would mean throwing on a bra going out in public clothes, but it would also mean someone else does the dishes.
I did roll the biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash bin out yesterday (and quite full it was, indeed!) so at minimum, I can roll that back up to the house & pretend that makes me productive.
Morning, all! It’s a clear and sunny day in Southern California, and I have absolutely nada to do for the next 2 weeks because of Spring Break. Why we are doing that this year is beyond me. If we just plowed straight on through we could be done with the school year by mid-May and never have to deal with the issue of reopening the schools locally. But nooooo, we have to take the break and then go back to some mutant hybrid bastardization of a school year for the last 45 days or so, Such a waste of effort and money.
Decided on a diner breakfast - eggs Benedict, plus a side of bacon, and hot tea of course - and now I’m full! More ready for a nap, than work, but such is life. So I’m having “quiet time” instead, and doing something I haven’t bothered with in a long while: painting my nails.
I have a pretty, sparkly, pale sky blue all picked out.
Afternoon, mumpers! It is a glorious day out there today. Weather app says “Could be colder, could be warmer. I wish the weather would make up its fucking mind” and promises me 10C/50F and partly cloudy. That’ll explain why it’s sunny and feels pretty warm out there.
I’ve been proper out and about adulting this morning. Spent a couple of hours fixing some spreadsheet problems from Friday and then drove up to the garage to drop the car off for a service and MoT. Then as I was out, I walked the rest of the way into town and deposited a cheque at the bank, then went to get another pack of puppy pads. The garage man has just called for authorisation to do a couple of small things, for the princely sum of £30 and I should be able to collect the car later today. He’s calling back in about an hour when it’s all done and it will take me 30mins to walk up there.
Been a good exercise day so far, I’m already at 7K steps, with another half-mile(ish) walk to come, and I have an hour-long exercise session online planned for later. It’s all go!
Happy Moanday, Mumpers! I’d rather mambo than moan, it’s so bright and sunny outside. Today I have a hair appointment, so for the next 24 hours, I’ll look fabulous…well, my hair will. The rest of me is on its own. Then I’ll walk to the used furniture store and see what new spring flowers there are today. We’ve got crocuses, daffodils, violets, dogwood, and dandelions a-blooming, and some of the cherry trees look like they’re concentrating hard.
I have a cleaning lady. I’m perfectly willing to clean my apartment, but I have trouble seeing the crumbs, etc., and I knew I wasn’t getting things really clean. Cleaning people are insanely expensive here, but mine charges a small fraction of that. She says she likes to clean. We’ve become friends and take time for a socially-distant, masked chat while she’s here. She’s the only person who’s been in my place in a year.
quietly, that’s a pretty crazy calendar decision. If your district is like mine, they ask faculty for input after TPTB have made a decision.
taters, hope you feel better. (No chance it’s Covid, right?)
Took the day off, because the 5 days leftover from last year have to be used by the end of March. And this way we have short weeks for 4 weeks in a row (or was it 6). Not too shabby.
Got our passport photos done and almost made an appointment at the consulute. Almost meaning that they didn’t accept our proposal, but gave a suggestion, so probably we’ll get the confirmation tomorrow. They are only open for appointments 2.5 hours a day, Monday - Thursday.
Figured out that I’m not able to push photos into Facebook on my phone, but from Facebook I can pull them in. Others have the same problem, but no solution. Fun times. Just means the last 3 or 4 photos I thought I shared (phone told me they were shared), were not. First day of spring photos make more sense if I post them on the actual first date of spring. Right?
My computer doesn’t want to talk to wi-fi in the living room, so I’m sitting on the floor in the room with books and a drying rack. Could call it a guest room, but it’s going to be a while before there are any more guests in it.
Should try calling the bank. Don’t wanna, but gotta be an adult and do it anyways. Grumble.
As an erstwhile and occasional garden professional, I will absolutely guarantee that there will be at least one more hard frost before the end of May. More likely two, possibly three. But go ahead and buy all your annuals this weekend! The nurseries will be crowded with other plant junkies jonesing for that horticulture high, and then even more crowded come mother’s day weekend when all the same people will be there to buy everything all over again! The nursery business relies on this double Christmas of the easily snowed weather chilli me to carry it through until Christmas tree season DC
Just got back from the accountant. Looks like I owe $1,500 between the Feds and California. (No state income tax in Washington.) Plus probably $800 for preparation. (I’ll find out later.) Were it not for the rental property, I’d get a refund every year. But the income has to go onto my taxes for reasons.
I spent the last two days knocking down a rotting wood fence with a crowbar. It was breathtaking. But now my arms and shoulders are crazy tight. I need to start lifting weights. I took out about 15 big panels, some of which were trapped by vines that required an axe or saw. It was delightful.
The next step is to convince the husband that he doesn’t need to leave certain panels up but should replace either the whole fence or none of it. That’ll take some doing, though. In the meantime I’m going to start prying up the carpet and carpet padding from the hardwood in the family room after work ends today.
So that report correction I mentioned a week or two ago; the one that the Big Credit Company screwed up and I had to tell them to do it again. They screwed it up again. So now I’m going to try submitting a separate request for everything that has to be done. One… by… one.
