Building an ark in the MMP

Yesterday, 24 Oct 2021, was officially the wettest single day in Sacramento history, with 5.31 inches of rain in that calendar day. It’s still coming down pretty hard too. As I mentioned in the previous MMP, Sacramento city officials sent out an emergency alert asking people to stay off the roads until at least 4am due to flooded areas. There are still plenty of doofuses (or would the correct plural be doofi?) trying to drown their cars or play hydroplane bumper cars out there, though. (sigh).

I’ve verified that none of the windows or doors are leaking, and drainage in the parking lot is keeping up well, so no worries about the car taking water damage. DH points out this seems to be a good time for him to be off work anyway.

Hijack to your hearts’ contents.

FIRST!!!

Ah, 'tis good to be juvenile.

SECOND!!! I’m juvenile too!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 82 and mostly cloudy for the day. Nuttin’ much on today’s agenda. Sloth and so forth is the plan. Tonight is men’s night over to the church house, thus steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. That takes care of sup.

Nettie that’s a lotta rain! You and all the other PNW Mumpers take care. Is the storm supposed to let up today?

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

A few years back, Tennessee had a “Thousand Year Flood”.
The kind of flood that only happens once a Millennia.
Downtown Nashville was flooded.

ALL of downtown Nashville was flooded.
It ain’t a contest.
Just, “welcome to the muddy bath” club.

I started answering in the last MMP before remembering that it’s a new week. so thru the magic of cut-and-paste, here I go:

This is Higgs, or it was 8 years ago. She’s showing her age more now…
Imgur

Today’s appointment should also include the removal schedule - probably by being induced, since he’s no longer breech. I’ll know more this afternoon, but so far, there’s no reason to expect he’ll show up this week (knock wood…)

That’s really sweet of you, but I’ve got to tell you, she’s got a metric butt-ton of books - some were her Mama’s 30-some years ago, but we’ve added to her library considerably. Plus her great grandmother got her a subscription to a Highlights for pre-schoolers. And thanks to her school, she’s become even more interested in being read to, or “reading” to us. Her rendition of The Very Hungry Caterpillar is epic! Anyway - check for a message.

I woke stupid early and couldn’t fall back to sleep. That’s usually the way when we’re about to make a trek. I start thinking about what we shouldn’t forget and sleep is gone. So once I finish my usual morning surfing, I’ll make a list or 3. Then I’ll dig out a suitcase. And make a list for SIL. And refill the cat feeder… holy crap, I’ve got a lot to do today!! :open_mouth:

Happy Moanday!

Afternoon, mumpers! I missed most of the MMP last week, I had a peek in there just now and I’m behind by about 250 messages so that’s going to take a lot of catching up. It’s another Monday off for me, we had intended to spend the weekend visiting a couple of friends but one of them has a relatively recently bowel cancer diagnosis and has started some quite aggressive treatment so wasn’t feeling up to company. I’d already booked today off, so I’m still taking it. Been to the gym instead, and have a bunch of domestic things that will keep me busy.

A friend from an online bookclub thing has a relative in Vermillion, SD who will be 90 at the end of the month but since the majority of the family are in Germany, they aren’t able to celebrate with her. Instead, she’s asked if anyone in the bookclub would care to send a birthday card, so I’m just getting one ready for the post today.

We had some very wet months during the year and some that have been unexpectedly drier, brighter and warmer than normal. Today it’s 13C/55F and “partly sunny” according to the weather app. It’s looking very autumnal out there with the leaves changing colour and falling off the trees, and also quite slippery underfoot as it’s been quite damp recently. That will be an interesting walk through the park in the morning on my way to the station.

Anyway…off to be a domestic goddess!

Mornin all!. I’m up, sheveled, about to head to the shop. I need to put together a set of directions for museum exhibit assembly, since they weren’t ready for me to do the install last week. Plus a visit to the restaurant, I think I’m installing the TP holders and some various other knick-knacks.

Anyhow, onward to the day!

Up and…ugh. Today does not seem slated to go well, but I’ll persevere anyway. It’s grey and freezing after a night of lots of tornadic activity. Fortunately we didn’t have to deal with much of it. Overlyboy woke up in a bear of a teenaged mood and snapped at me. Not to be outdone, I snapped back while overlygirl pretended to sleep on the couch to avoid any attention. Smart girl. He left in a pretty cruddy mood but did hug me on the way out, so I’m assuming that by the end of the day most of it will be forgotten.

In the meantime, my eyeballs are tired. I’m going to wake them up now with more coffee. Surely that’ll help, right?

It has begun. The chickie tits are baking - they’ll be done soon, and once they’re cooled, I’ll build the chicken-grape-pecan salad. I had to run to the dollar store for some pecans, but they came chopped and in the right amount, so huzzah! I’m making ice - I wiped out the cooler and put a sack of ice in there to pre-cool it. The frozen food will be loaded when I get back from fetching Roxy. And I’ve got 4 eggs on to boil - I’ll take them for breakfasts for me. My inlaws aren’t really breakfast people and I’m up before all of them anyway, so I can have an egg and a piece of toast without messing up any dishes.

FCD got signed up for social security to start in January. That way, if he decides to quit consulting, we’ll be ready, and if he gets a really good project, we can put SS on hold as long as he has income, since he’s still about a year shy of his full retirement age. After that, he can earn as much as he wants without penalty… unless they change the law. But that’s a future issue.

Speaking of SS - mine was deposited today. Normally, it goes in on the 4th Wednesday. So surprise money this morning.

OK, enough goofing off - time to make a list.

Oh thank goodness. It’s not just mine. :grimacing: Good luck and best wishes from a fellow mom.

I just checked mine and it wasn’t there yet. Yet more evidence that you are special!

Trying to get 'Beamer onto the bus in a few minutes. The :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: bus driver keeps showing up earlier and earlier and we don’t want to miss the bus. Very irritating.

Today I will probably spend in bed, like I did yesterday. Steep, steep drop in pressure yesterday as the bomb cyclone hit. Today we climb back out of it. My head hates pressure changes, and this one is nasty.

Happy Moanday everyone!

Nettie Be careful out there.

Just two years ago, we had a 500 year flood south of Nashville. Mrs Magill and I took a walk about two hours after the rain stopped. This is the creek down the hill from our house.

Here it is by the overpass, which had been completely under water an hour before:

I took the picture standing next to a utility pole, which had mud above my head. I still don’t know why I didn’t take a photo of it.

Happy Moonday!

No park today, even though it is a nice day.
My leg with the pulled muscle gave out on me as I was walking up the stairs yesterday. I almost fell down the stairs. I decided my leg needs rest, and other than driving my son to irk this evening, I am doing as little as possible.
Now my shoulder hurts from catching myself from falling down the stairs.
I was a slug a bed until 9.
This getting old bullshit sucks.

I learned something new this morning.
You are allowed only 5000 friends on FB.
Not because I have 5000 friends, but because somebody (from here, I am assuming because of the mutual friends list) sent me a friend request, which was rejected because it appears that I would be friend number 5001.
Not allowed.
So, I am not ignoring you, avoiding you, or rejecting you.

If your car does flood Nettie, be careful when you start it.
A friend of my friend ended up in the hospital after the airbags went off when he started his car. The flooding waters did something to them.
People are crazy. When you’re told to stay off the roads, it’s usually a good idea to listen. Even if you can handle it, others won’t, and it’ll be just that much more trouble for the rescuers to get around.
Some employers need to be smacked though. Sometimes they demand employees come in, even when it’s not safe.

I have a lot of paper irk stuff that needs to be done.
Today will be a good day to do it. Since we picked up groceries yesterday, I have some stuff that can be microwaved, so no real cooking today.

Have a safe trip FCM.

It’s raining up here in western Mitten State, too. The cats have cabin fever; last night’s falafel & toasted almonds didn’t sit right; I gotta work in half an hour and donwanna.

Have not 1, not 2, but 3 pending job applications that all require me to jump through a bunch of hoops. No time or bandwidth to do it.

I have faint aqua streaks in my hair.

That about covers the news from Casa De Shoe.

I’m on vacation this week, but I logged in to see if there was any urgent business. There was an email from El Jefe saying that a cow-orker’s nephew died suddenly in Mexico Friday morning at the age of 53. He was like a brother to her (they’re about the same age), and would come up to Seattle to spend summers when her in middle school and high school. She lost a niece suddenly the morning of 9/24. :frowning:

Surely you never doubted this…

Flood talk takes me back to when we lived in FL the year Black Creek flooded. Slightly convoluted here, but my daughter’s good friend’s father lived on Black Creek. Her parents were divorced and her dad was on his honeymoon the weekend the flood hit, so his ex-wife, being a saint, got a bunch of us together to get the furniture out of his house - she even rented a truck for us to load. The water got really, really close, but fortunately, it never reached his house. And even more fortunately, we didn’t have to help them move back in… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Eggs are boiled, peeled, and bagged. Chicken salad is made and bagged. Dishes are washing - any other I use will be hand-washed before we go. FCD packed a bunch of Higgs’ stuff, and he brought our suitcase up from the basement. I’ve started checking things off my list. Time to sit and think about what I’ve forgotten.

No, this isn’t a vacation…

Heave, came home. There was a hawk sitting on the tree right in front of my door when I got home. I walked around, in case he was in the mood to go full murder chicken on me.

Nettie, and all you PNW Mumpers stay safe and (relatively)dry. We’re gettting some storms here, but not %" worth.

a little list?
And safe travels!

nellie, while I like See’s, given its limited availability here, I tend to go for Moser-Roth dark sea salt or dark chili chocolate. It’s available at Aldi and is good quality chocolate.

I went to bed last night, slept for a couple of hours and woke up in a sweat and sick to my stomach. I was still up at 0230, so I called out of irk. I’ve been sipping peppermint tea or seltzer and had a few crackers, but still can’t face food.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Official rainfall total for yesterday has been updated to 5.44". A bit much for one calendar day, IMO. When I peeked outside on getting up, I was greeted by clear blue sky. On the other side of the building, blue sky with just a few minor clouds. The major sound outside is water draining away. I understand Donner Pass is a bit messy, since the storm’s now far enough east to be dumping snow on the mountains. We do need it, but seems to me like going over Donner Pass when there’s snow is just kind of asking for trouble.

Plans for today TBD.

Eighteenth!

The rains are supposed to start around noonish. Good that we are only getting the edges of this storm, since the burn scar above town hasn’t regrown much yet. But the water will be gladly accepted. The birds won’t be happy, but they don’t have a vote in the matter.

Note to self: I really need to clip Tango’s nails. He grabbed my arm in the middle of the night and drew blood. Not his fault, but he’s getting them clipped before bedtime.

Stay dry, Mumpers!

Afternoon all. Slept in until nearly 9am because I can, and was pretty tired anyway. Then had to do the shopping-n-sammich routine, and added a couple stops for Pepsi (3 12-packs for $11) and Rye bread (and the New York Times). So I didn’t get home until after 11am with exactly $3.79 cash remaining in my pockets. Rained most of the morning here, but nothing like what Seanette got. No flooding like Wizard’s either, only flood like that I remember was in St. Louis in the 90’s when the Mississippi and Missouri went over their banks in a major way (I was 15 miles away, however).

Got a call from Brother, they are going to Topeka, KS for Thanksgiving, so I need to plan for a 2-day drive and hotel there. Looked at flights to Kansas City, but the cheapest was $420 so no, I’ll mosey along the highway. Brother and Sis-in-Law are trying to sell their house so they can move to a smaller home now that the kids are gone, so Xmas may also be in question. We shall see.

Make sure you pack provisions (or husband)…

Feel better soon, red

Safe travels, FCM and FCD

Sympathies to your boss, flyboy

quietly, like Sunny says, it’s past of being a teenage boy; he’ll be fine and have 27 other things on his mind by the afternoon.

OK, lunch has been consumed and everything is put away, so on to internettin’ and readin’ for the balance of the afternoon. All y’all take care.
