We did lunch at Salsa’s, but all Roxy had were some chips and salsa and some of the fries that came with her cheeseburger (which she barely nibbled.) She also had a few forkfuls of my rice. She’s napping now. FCD is crashed on his recliner - I think the walk across the parking lot kicked his butt. There’s a bench right outside the restaurant and I told him I’d bring the car around, but by the time I paid, he was almost to the car.
Some people…
It started raining as we were leaving Salsa’s so Roxy won’t get any outside time. On the other hand, she went down late enough that I’ll probably get her up right before her mom gets here. So peace for another hour or so.
I baked a couple of small loaves of bread - using olive oil instead of butter as the shortening. Smells good, but I used my new silicone loaf pans, and they stretched with the bread - FCD said they look like two giant potatoes! I think I’ll freeze one and slice the other when it cools.
But for now, I shall assume the knit position for a while, just because.
What the heck color is periwinkle anyway? When I was a little bumba my dad used to occasionally bring home a bucket of periwinkles and as I recall, their shells were off white with splashes of a lavendery-blue color. He would make periwinkle soup with them. Kinda like clam chowder.
OOps! I’m wandering again.
Depends if the periwinkle you’re talking about is the snaily thing what lives in the sea or the plant- but kinda bluey purple.
Anyway- I have read, but not retained: please apply hugs, boos, sprinkles or yays as required.
'Tis my Firday today, and I get 3 full days off this week, rather than dialling in for a meeting tomorrow like I have been doing on Thorsdays, 'cos the meeting’s off (I offered to dial in, otherwise I often don’t find out about stuff, and it ain’t like there’s been much else to do). Hopefully I can find something fun to do with the day. I seem to be accumulating extra jobs at irk- which is kinda good in that it means less waiting for stuff to do, but I do question the logic of giving the two people on a short-term contract the bunch of extra responsibility with no end date. That seems a good way to train twice. But eh, that’s not my problem.
I seem to have slightly borked my spacebar while trying to remove the gunk under it, which is making typing very irritating, so I think I should go watch something instead. Or play with my shiny new graphics tablet, which does have a pretty steep learning curve, but is kinda fun.
Wait, they’re a snail?? I’d only ever thought of periwinkles in the context of flowers and was imagining a huge bucket of gorgeous dusky blues until I got to the chowder part. Then I couldn’t stop wondering if it was like eating nasturtiums or violets only in a stew. Then I re-read and saw the word “shells.” I am now forever changed.
nellie, my mom used to invoke St. Anthony almost every school morning.
swampy, you do know that your gay man card will be revoked for decorating in orange shag carpet and periwinkle, don’t you?
Hope everything goes well for your daughter sunny.
flyboy, mayo? Really? While good on many things, avocado wouldn’t be one of them. I go the simple route for guac most of the time: mashed up avocado, salt, pepper and garlic. Occasionally, I’ll chop up a Roma tomato in the bowl for a change.
I woke up to a BG of 58 so I called out at irk. It’s back to functional levels now, but I’ll be out tomorrow to go get my second jab. I did manage to do a few things in the studio once I was done being shaky, so it hasn’t been a total waste.
I was corrected a few minutes ago. ‘It’s not guacamole; it’s avocado dip. Paso del Norte makes guacamole.’ Anyway, it’s good with chips and good on toast.
If I were just having avocado, I’d put Miracle Whip on it because avocados are ‘fatty’ and Miracle Whip is sweet.
Me too. Let’s ditch the orange and keep the periwinkle.
The orange walls in the NCIS bullpen more than used up my tolerance for orange in interior human built environments years ago. Just the thought causes a twinge and I haven’t owned a TV or cable for a decade.
Onward with periwinkle. Accent colors anyone? How about a new set of coasters for Mooooom in a lovely saturated periwinkle? Hmmmm? She said she was due for a new set.
When did I say I was due for more coasters? I’ve got coasters all over the place, including a set that’s never been used. Sheesh, people!
RoxStar has gone home. Her birthday presents are wrapped, and by wrapped, I mean I stuck them in bags with tissue. I also stuck the batteries in them - they are very noisy! She’s gonna love 'em!
We may not do supper tonight - perhaps just graze. The rain continues, FCD is still napping, and I’m fighting the urge to sit down with the bread I just baked and a big pile of butter… < drool > So I’ll turn on the news and knit instead.
Speaking of things that do NOT need mayo, and I know I’ve shared this before - I was looking up recipes for teriyaki marinade to see how they may differ from mine. This came up… My previous three meals almost came up, too.
Flushed the RV water holding tank with bleachy water yesterday. Always a fun job. Refilled with fresh water. Checked the faucets and toilets for any gasket failures, AKA leaks; all good.
We took a day off today and visited the Wooden Shoe tulip farm south of Portland. Beautiful day and beautiful flowers, and Mt. Hood in full glory.
Evening all. Developed a lower backache today, noticed it as I was getting off the terlet and sharp pains got me down in the kidney region. Hard to stand up straight for a bit, but once I did get up and moving, the pain went away. It’s quiescent now as I sit here typing, we’ll see what happens when I get up.
Rain seems to have given us a pass today, albeit it looks like **swampy ** may be getting some evening showers, and the temperature went from 80F yesterday to a high of 66 today. Did get out to mail bills, but mostly it was a house day.
Cookie, I’ve only seen Mt. Hood from Seattle; looking forward to one of these days getting a closer look.
red, don’t pretend to know all the numbers, but 58 doesn’t sound good; y’all take care of yourself.
flyboy, nice move on your part. I left my e-mail with our secretary when I left but never hear from her so she’s either moved on or nobody worries about me. In fairness, I haven’t been back to visit in 3 years, so I guess it’s not much of a surprise.
talky, there are times that meetings are valuable; but not very often. Hoped you managed to get some work done anyway.
OK, need to see if the cheeburger has defrosted and I can being dinner. All y’all have a good night (oops, just remembered, need to put the garbage out tonight).
The BG is up to 90 (fairly normal) now, so I think I should be good for a while. I went a little heavy on the carbs once I took care of the immediate problem. I’ve played around in the studio and napped with Nelson most of the afternoon.
Today was my first day back to in-person classes. Only 2 students showed up for the day, but it was enough to remind me why I do what I do. I MISS MY STUDENTS, DAMMIT!!! The schedule is totally fucked up, the Covid restrictions are silly for the most part but this was like waving drugs under a junkies nose just as he was getting clean, like it or not.
I also realized on the drive home how much easier the last 9 months would have been if I would have had my classes to bond with. I wouldn’t have felt so alone sometimes (No offense, but you people aren’t real. You’re just the World AI fucking with me.)
Anyway, tomorrow is the class that has the most students coming back (10) so that is something to look forward to.
flyboy, you didn’t save yourself by throwing Miracle Whip into the conversation. Now you just have more, different people shouting “Burn the heretic!”
It was Peak Season busy today, and they had me pulling cages for middle red(not to be confused with missred).. And it was the last day for the lady who does the debagging in the small nest with me. That’s gonna cause some fuck ups down the line. But I picked up my new glasses, and I have an Old Fashioned, so the scales balance for today.
Well, maybe purplehorseshoe isn’t fond of you either!
My wife refers to all of you as my imaginary friends. After 20+ years here and some other places online, y’all are more real to me than the people I meet IRL every day
