Do you bleach your children's teeth?

This question is mostly for mothers who do bleach their own teeth, but dads are, of course, welcome. It’s kinda like a poll, but no counting.
Anyway, it seems to have become an essential part of grooming, as in “eww, she needs to do something about those teeth”. Even though the teeth are cleaned and naturally white.
Everyone says it’s perfectly safe and harmless.
So what I’m wondering is whether moms who believe this and bleach their teeth believe so enough to brighten the kids’ teeth.
There ya go!

No. I’ve never even considered it.

Never.

But why? How about teenagers?

Probably the same reasons I don’t put mascara and lipstick on my two year old. Also, most little kids have pretty white teeth anyways, and I’m generally not in favour of unnecessary cosmetic procedures.

If when my kids are teenagers they want to have it done, they can pay for it themselves.

Can’t (actually, I won’t) argue with that.
Mostly I had in mind, oh, six and older. It’s been a long time, but I seem to remember that’s around the age girls (I have two grown girls) want to be older. Like on Hanna Montana.

Young children still have white teeth. They don’t need to be bleached.

Do you mean baby teeth or after they grow adult ones?

A lot of adults have white teeth, but bleach anyway. By now, I’d say most who bleach don’t need it. But that is of course their choice.

Older children. See #6.

No, I never considered such a thing. My daughters have beautiful clothes and get good dental care. They are attractive on their own and I don’t notice any issues with their teeth. The oldest is 7 and doesn’t drink wine, smoke, or chew tobacco.

Insisting to them that I bleach their teeth pushes the limits to Jonbenet Ramsey syndrome beyond its limits. They are beautiful and suggesting to them that they could always improve on that is a little more than spooky in my mind.

This is a very odd question.

But you didn’t ask “How many adults with white teeth bleach them anyway?”

I was responding to the question you did ask, which was “Do you bleach your children’s teeth?”.

I don’t think it’s odd as much as, as Petula Clark would sing “A sign of the times.”

No, not really. When I see what some parents allow for their young kids, mostly girls, I wonder. Speaking of Hanna Montana, take a look at the kids in the line waiting to go in. Some girls this age suffer from anorexia from trying to attain a certain image. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they asked for teeth whitening.
There’s nothing “odd” about being concerned about kids, including yours.

No, but I did say “This question is mostly for mothers who do bleach their own teeth” in the body of the post.
Sorry my reply annoyed you.

No way! I know how sensitive it’s made my teeth before, not to mention the burns I’ve had from the whitening tray type! I would never put a chemical like that into a child’s mouth! Imagine what would happen if they had weak enamel?

I do bleach my own teeth sometimes, and I would not bleach a child’s.

There are plenty of things adult mothers (and fathers) do that they wouldn’t let their kids do, they’re adults.

I don’t have kids, but my mom started me on bleaching trays when I was 8 or so. I currently have a mouth full of veneers that she wanted me to have though, and my teeth were fine before, so I think she just has a thing about teeth.

However, I have a beautiful smile that I get complimented on constantly, and it makes me feel super confident, so maybe she knew what she was doing! Personally, I think the bleaching trays are the reason I eventually had to get veneers. I was getting cavities like crazy on my front teeth, and I don’t even drink Cokes or eat sugar stuff or anything, so I do believe they weakened my enamel.

bleach teeth? as in those whitening strips?
kids: No.

I’m not a parent, but I can’t imagine letting my kids do that, when you can’t even let them use the full amount of tooth paste. Heck, at the ages you mention, they’d still be using bubblegum flavored and that mouthwash that you can safely swallow.
