Raised in Scientology? Feral is a nice word for her.
I boycott any actors that post on message boards using their real names.
interesting comments. I avoid anything with Mel Gibson , Tom Cruise - basically for reasons mentioned.
I’d just like to say I don’t understand why people mock Angelina Jolie for having, what, 6 children? (other reasons, ok). Up until the last decade or so that was not considered an unreasonable number of children in a family.
Having children? Up until the advent of birth control and people making the decision to be responsible in bringing children into the world in a rational manner, having children every two years of a woman’s child bearing period was a matter of ignorance vs biology. Compulsively hoarding a multitude of multi-ethnic underage biologic fashion accessories? Just creepy.
you have a right to your opinion D-bear, but families with 6 or so children were common by choice in some areas even after birth control became common. And if remember my tabloid reading correctly, Angelina adopted 3 children. Three. (why should their ethnicities matter? My sister-in-law adopted 3 from China. so what?). and has 3 biological children. Still don’t see the compulsive child hoarding in this. you may not like Jolie, but I don’t have any problem with her having 6 kids.
I’m sort of surprised at the Tom Cruise hate. Yeah, he’s crazy, and maybe kind of an asshole, but he’s not a foaming racist like Gibson or an unrepentant rapist like Polanski. I’m sure you could find a dozen more people in Hollywood as nuts as Tom Cruise without breaking a sweat.
There is the whole Scientologist thing, and I understand why people wouldn’t want to support them, even indirectly, but it strikes me that having Tom Cruise as the most public face for Dianetics is probably more damaging to their credibility than a hundred Anonymous protests.
It’s not really an ongoing issue that I have to think about, but I would be reluctant to buy things that put further money into the pocket of Victoria Jackson, given that she’s done her best over the past few years to make Ted Nugent look sanely centrist.
Didn’t he try to sue South Park over an episode about him? “Trapped in a Closet”
I’ve heard many stories of people who have met Tom Cruise in various capacities (Jay Mohr talking about meeting him during his time writing for SNL was one) and every single person says the same thing. That Cruise is one of the absolutely nicest and charismatic people they’ve ever met. I’ve heard this said so many times from so many different people that I have to believe it.
Bob Ducca - Tom Cruise may be a nice, charismatic person - but he’s a nice person who wants to ban anti-depressant drugs that actually help people, & he wants to do this because his crazy “religion” tells him to.
My No-Watch-List:
Tom Cruise
Adam Sandler
Ronald Reagan
Charlton Heston
Mel Gibson
I avoid Tom Cruise movies, but it’s not really “I hate your views, ergo boycott.” It’s more, “I hate your views, ergo I can’t not look at you and see a jerk actor playing a part, and I hate your stupid face.”
It probably helps that Cruise tends to be in the type of movies I’m predisposed to not want to see.
That’s what led me to say, “maybe kind of an asshole,” but really - is buying a ticket to The Last Samurai actually going to have any effect on the availability of Paxil? Lots of celebrities have crazy/stupid ideas. If you boycott every celeb who believes something dumb, you’re going to run out of popular media pretty quickly.
I’ve specifically avoided movies because they had Tom Arnold or Madonna in them. I otherwise might have watched True Lies or Evita.
I don’t know which talented gentleman you mean, and I don’t understand why you lost respect for her. I don’t especially care for her, but surely her marriage to Lovett was not a publicity stunt, like Kardashian’s?
Edit: and I just looked it up to make sure I wasn’t missing something obvious, and found that the “quickie” marriage lasted two years, and that they reportedly remain friends.
Back to the OP, I can’t think of any actors whose politics make me enjoy their movies more or less.
But I do find that it takes me out of a movie when an actor who seems as dumb as a rock in real life (on talk shows or whatever) has very smart dialog written for him/her.
If you’re going to start boycotting Scientologists, you may never see another movie for the rest of your life.
I’ve heard the same about John Travolta. Maybe the upper degrees of Scientology involve niceness and charismaticness training.
oh, and Jim Carrey for his nutso anti-vax propaganda.
Braveheart was anti-British? Anti-English maybe… Or did the Patriot put you over the edge?
