As great a number as “Lees” is, I can’t imagine skipping “Sit Down, John” to get to it.
Unless there’s a “Director’s Cut” somewhere that I don’t know about, “Cool Cool Considerate Men” is only in the stage version of 1776 . Sorry, don’t mean to nitpick, Al , but it’s one of my favorite musicals and I’m kinda sensitive about it.
Anyhoo, back to the topic at hand:
Animal House – Bluto’s “Nothing is over until we say it is!” speech.
Wrath of Khan – The first confrontation between Kirk and Khan (The combination code)
Blues Brothers – The first chase (through the mall).
There is a director’s cut with the song restored, and it’s excellent. (It’s on DVD, if you’d like to pick it up). It’s nice to see Dickinson get some more singing time, and the choreography is some of my favorite from the movie.
Oooh… I forgot about that when I made my list! I like to skip to the last portion, with the Enterprise preparing for battle, and then the fight in the Nebula. Still the best (and arguably the most graphic) space battle in all of Trek.
Pulp Fiction: the scenes that take place in Jackrabbit Slim’s.
Donnie Darko: the scenes of Donnie and Frank in the movie theatre, Donnie going out to commit arson, and his family watching his sister dance at the school.
Those, the montage set to “Head Over Heels,” and the scene where Donnie tells off Patrick Swayze at the school assembly.
"Do you want your sister to lose weight? Tell her to get off the couch, stop eating twinkies and maybe go out for field hockey. You know what? No one ever knows what they want to be when they grow up. You know it takes a little, little while to find that out, right, Jim? And you… yeah, you. Sick of some jerk shoving your head down the toilet? Well, you know what? Maybe… you should lift some weights, or uh, take a karate lesson and the next time he’s tries to do it, you kick him in the balls. "
Oh…and sometimes doubt your committment to Sparkle Motion.
As a Reigon 1 viewer, i can tell you that it does have more Marv action, i won’t say what exacvtly, so as not to spoil it…
the other major change for the EE of Sin City is each story has been re-edited into it’s own chapter, each individually selected, they don’t arc together like the theatrical cut, makes “The Customer is Always Right” a little strange, as it has the opener from the movie and the ending in one “episode”, the weakest of the 4 re-edits
Blade Runner is a good one… there are some montages throughout with Vangelis playing that are just superb.
Memento - The last (or first I guess) 5 minutes where everything gets put together.
The Usual Suspects - Last bit after he lets Verbal go.
Back to the Future I, the 5 minutes before either of the two times Marty actually travels through time.
Wings of Honneamise is a really good movie that I just love the last 10 minutes of, where the political, scientific and emotional forces building for the whole movie collide, and they decide to launch their rocket even though it’s suddenly in the middle of a war zone.
Oh HELLS yes. If you do that though, you must include…
…the part where he tosses out the vapid tourguide speech that he was trying to memorize and makes a plea to the world for peace.
Although I guess that’s an entirely different scene.
Speaking of anime, I dig the part in Patlabor 2 where Godo’s going back to their base via the waterfront during Arakawa’s monologue about war. The visuals in that scene were fantastic.
Clerks has a number of scenes that are good all by themselves. I like the whole independent contractors on Death Star II debate with that Chewbacca song playing.
The Matrix has some good ones, particularly the shootout in the lobby. I also find the the interrogation scene as well as Cypher’s deal with Smith to be interesting too.
