Movies you use scene access for.

What movies do you actually use the “skip directly to your favorite scene” feature on your dvd’s for?

Most movies, I’ll just watch it straight through. If I like it enough to have bought it, it gets the full treatment.

Sometimes, though, a movie has elements good enough for repeated viewing, but the movie as whole doesn’t stand up. In what movies do you watch only certain scenes, and what scenes are they?

I’ll start off with

The Matrix Reloaded. I’ll skip directly to the fight scenes with the monsters, the highway scene, the battle with the oracle’s guardian, and the scenes with the most beautiful woman who ever set foot on planet Earth (Monica Belucci). The big brawl doesn’t really hold up. Neither does the story.

Your nominations, tell which scenes, and why.

True Stories, most definitely. It was several facinating scenes but is only so-so as a film. As far as individual scenes … “Papa Legba” with Pops Staples. The dinner table scene with Spalding Gray. The fashion show. Many others.

See, it’s obvious that you don’t have kids yet. Scene select is for when you get interrupted and must resume watching some time later. Occasionally it’s useful for skipping straight to the cool parts.

  • Shibb, who mostly watches rented/borrowed from the library DVDs.

Count of Monte Cristo—I usually skip straight to “tPriest’s” first appearance, and watch the movie from there. (The first part of the movie depressed the hell out of me enough the first time.)
