Nope - didn’t forget. I wish I WEREN’T as aware as I am to such forms of public unawareness/rudeness. And I didn’t need to forget them as they still occur. The cellphone while walking just impressed me as a distinct - and more modern - subset of such behavior. My perception may be colored by my distaste for cellphones, but I perceive them as increasing the level of public rudeness.
On one occasion in the airport, my wife needed to use the washroom. Doing so required crossing several people walking down the hallway. I happened to notice my wife looking around her and speeding up/slowing down to move around people as she made her way to the bathroom. And I did the same as I moved to a place at the side of the corridor where I could wait for her. As I stood there, I happened to notice people moving in and out of the bathrooms. I did not see a single other person appear to look around them or adjust their pace to be part of a smoothly flowing group of people. Instead, every person just changed directions and moved in whatever direction they wished, assuming others would notice them and adapt.
Likely the optimal behavior is somewhere between what I favor and what I observed.
