Do you find Amy Schumer amusing?

I think she is great. Love both her standup and her show.

I’m in the same place. When she gets involved in politics however, including channeling her father’s second cousin, I lose whatever smile I had.

Haven’t read any other responses. I think she’s pretty funny about half the time. The other half may isn’t bad either, just not speaking to me directly. I watch her show and specials on TV, I can’t say there’s any comedian much better around right now. She may be a little overexposed at the moment. Comics have to rework their acts periodically and this would be the time for her to lay low for a while and develop some new material.

From what I’ve seen of her work (Trainwreck and some sketches) I think she’s hilarious. She’s also filthy, really filthy, and just when I think she’s hit the peak of filthy, she manages to come up with something even more filthy.

I likes me some pretty coarse humor now and then, but at some point I have to stop watching and take a break.

I don’t care for crude humor, but in Amy’s stand-up I think she’s crude just to step out of the bounds of whats expected of a female performer. I don’t think her clothing choice is often flattering, but I think that’s the same thing.

Well, the new season of her show debuts in a couple weeks.

You guys are starting to convince me that I might be missing something. I’m going to dial it back a notch and give her another ear.

Yeah but that was mostly bullshit. Some of her sketches were close to things that have been done before but she has a staff of writers on her show. I don’t think you can blame her because someone on her staff watched a MadTV sketch. A couple of the jokes in her stand up were similar to jokes said in decades old Comedy Central specials of other comedians but the humor wasn’t that original and parallel thinking happens. Most of the big comedians came to her defense. Even those that she supposedly stole from mostly came to her defense.

Ignore comics who say another comic stole their jokes. Listen to comics who say another comic stole someone else’s jokes because they’re either telling a joke or they’re telling the truth.

Haven’t seen much of her standup act, but “Inside Amy Schumer” is one of the smartest, funniest shows I’ve encountered in recent times.

Oh, sure. I didn’t say that. I just meant that preachy doesn’t fit his ideas of her, so he might want to check her out again.

I’m glad he is, and I’ll be interested to hear what he thinks.

I just find it interesting having two opposite reasons that people dislike her.

(And, of course, there’s always the possibility that she works differently in skits because she’s not the only writer. Like how Leno’s own stuff is funny, but the stuff his writers wrote for him usually wasn’t.)

I’ve only seen a few of her sketches online, but everything I’ve seen was funny. I’m assuming that the sketches that get linked to the most (and thus catch my attention) are her better ones and that if I watched her full show I’d be seeing some duds as well. Still, she’s funny enough to at least have several IMHO funny sketches.

I don’t think anyone in this thread has mentioned this one, which I especially liked. It’s a fake movie trailer in which Peasant Amy learns she’s the long-lost Princess Amy…and discovers it’s not quite the fairytale she expected.

She’s not laugh out loud funny to me. I think I only cracked a smile a couple of times. But her sketch comedy is pretty true. In a way that makes it depressing, not funny.

I think she is hilarious.

Not from what little I’ve seen of her so far. I’m far more of a fan of Iliza Shlesinger.

She’s somewhere above average and below good (compared to other professional comedians) for me. I admit I haven’t seen more than a few clips of her stand up stuff, and I haven’t seen her show, so my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I’m bingewatching on Hulu and am still in Season One. Glad to know it gets even better.

I find her comedy to be the exact right mix of pure humor plus discomfort that works for me. I also like that it can veer from smart to filthy, or be both somehow.

Due to the fact that I hear comics being themselves on radio shows and podcasts more than their standup it gives me a different perspective. While being herself Iliza is kind of boring and not very funny. Amy Schumer is incredibly quick and funny while being herself in conversation. That might come from being a Comedy Cellar regular where if you can’t hold your own with other comics you get eaten alive.

Yep. They play a lot of her stand-up on SiriusXM. The parts where she “veers” off in a different direction reminds me of Anthony Jeselnik, but Amy just does that here and ther. Jeselnik makes that his entire schtick, and you pretty much know what’s coming.
