I’ve noticed that several posters have a definite flirtatious relationship going on. Other dopers don’t flirt at all, and it doesn’t seem to matter whether the doper is married or not. So my question is: Do you flirt on the boards? Why or Why not?
I flirt sometimes. It’s safe, harmless, anonymous, and fun (gotta love a group of smart-asses) as long as no one takes it too seriously or initiates e-stalking as a result.
Do I flirt on the board? Is the Pope Catholic?

As for why…mainly because I am a HELL of a lot shyer in RL than on here, and it’s nice to get the attention. And like magdalene said, it’s fun. As my friend Dan always used to say to me when we flirted… “You know what I need in my life? A few more smartasses!!!”

I don’t, personally, for two reasons: (1) I’m married, and (2) I’m not especially shy IRL. But I certainly don’t look down on anyone who does engage in a bit of harmless online flirtation.

I don’t a whole lot, cuz I get shy. But one of the things that entrances me about this place is the wonderful playfulness the people here have. Flirting is just playing, with all the feelings adults have. It’s sad that real life tends to suppress that part of ourselves, because it is such a sweet vital part of life.

I flirt online occasionally jokingly mostly. IRL, well, let’s just say I’m not shy, and it’s a rare person that makes me shy out of liking them.
My main concern with flirting is that you never know who you are flirting with. It could be some guy, wearing a pink teddy or something. Hey Vestal Blue, we got a date for you!!

As for why - well it’s fun. It’s mostly harmless. It’s nice for the ego. It’s stimulating. Need any more reasons than that?
I don’t flirt. In real life it’s because I am extremly shy, and not much to look at. Online it’s because of some of the backstory Arkon’s developed. In either persona I find that appearence and actions aren’t enough; I require an emotional connection to my partner. In Other Words: I need her to be a friend first and lover second. I have been called an odd man on many occasions.
