And then there are the 50s hipsters like Kerouac: http://movieclips.com/Ymu4-tank-girl-movie-brush-your-teeth/
Seriously. She looks like literally half the teenage girls I see. I’m guessing her clothes come from Forever 21 and Target. She looks totally ordinary.
Whatever the hell “hipster” may mean, she ain’t it. Or, I don’t know, maybe she is. And… so?
She’s no hipster, she just looks like an ordinary kid. These are hipsters (I live here – Hackney, East London, UK – I trip over several quiffs and ironic 80s sunglasses a day, god help me).
Again I call for a proper definition, because it seems to me that each country has a different idea of what constitutes a Hipster.
Here in Melbourne, Australia, I see a lot of these guys around, who are scruffy chic. This is nothing like the UK Hipster who just seem like poorly dressed bad taste dickheads.
There is no ‘proper definition.’ A hipster is someone the speaker wishes to dismiss, because clearly they’re only doing whatever it is they happen to doing for image. No one considers themselves a hipster. If they use a term to define themselves, it’s indie or artist or emo or goth or geek or ‘it’s called style’ or whatever.
It’s like the way geeks use ‘fanboy.’ No, wait. It’s the way geeks 10 years ago used ‘fanboy.’ (Is it weaboo now? damn hipster geek kids) ‘That other guy who’s you might think is similar to me but they’re doing it for THE WRONG REASONS AND I’M BETTER THAN THEM AND I’M NOT A LOSER!’
This is obviously a completely new phenomenon. Every fashion trend before them was entirely sincere. People wore mullets and giant shoulder pads because they BELIEVED, not out out of conformist non-conformism.

Likewise no style/subculture has ever inspired an arbitrary and overwrought contempt from those not involved in it. It’s really a unique phenomenon, and not in any way exactly like every youth culture ever.
A girl with large luminous eyes, perfect skin, lush lips, and an elfin sort of prettiness, who is shy about performing a skill in public but bold enough to do it anyway? A girl who appears to be at the peak of pubescence? A girl who demonstrates physical and personality attributes that activate those primitive buttons that say “protect/possess”?
No, guys just don’t dig chicks like that. At all.
If you think 98% of heterosexual Penile-Americans give a flying fuck about the “hipster” status of an attractive female — much less a highly attractive one, you’re delusional, gay, metrosexual (i.e. “all of my primal drives have been subsumed into consumerism and ‘lifetsyle’ wankery”) or possibly female, but not a sane female; the sort that has weird fantasies that all men want to rape women, or who lives with 37 cats she named things like “Woogums” and “Fwuffy-Wuffy”…and those aren’t nicknames, they’re the actual names.

More London hipster spotting: Being A Dickhead’s Cool.

Ordinary kid? No way
Those are just the extreme hipsters. I’ve seen people with similar tastes in media but have a more toned down but still artsy / indie look like this girl.
Not every hipster looks outlandish like those pics.
Isn’t Zooey Deschanel a hipster? She doesn’t dress like those London guys either
It could be that these are not ordinary kids, or it could be that you are not an ordinary kid.
I am feeling particularly spiteful right now before I head off to bed and was thinking we should launch some sort of campaign to get a nonOP member here a date with that girl.

has bought your Orion
“Bought your Orion?” Is that hipster lingo? Or do you mean the Ford Orion, which is so unhip it’s hip. I would totally drive one, but only in an ironic way.

Pretty much the only kids around here who wouldn’t get hipster levelled at them from someone (probably another hipster ) are the townie/skanger/chav/neds.

Really? Most teenage girls don’t look and dress like her …
Even without the guitar she looks like she could be a member of an indie pop band. So doesn’t that mean she’s a hipster?
Nope. It means that you think she looks like she should be in an indie band. I ascribe no such inherent quality to her. Hell; the only thing I can think of that you might be seeing is that she’s a (to you) hot chick with short hair. That’s not a specifically hipster thing.

Ordinary kid? No way
Okay, you’re going to have to post a pic of what you think an ordinary teenage girl looks like because you’ve got me totally confused, she really does look ordinary to me.

Why is it particularly important to be able to label and categorize people into groups? Honestly, do you really have the time to care? So what, she’s an adorable hipster chick (or not); did it change your life to rant about her?
Yes, some people find hipsters attractive, and some don’t. Different strokes for different folks.
Are parody threads frowned on these days? I’m dying to start a series of “Do you guys like middle manager guys like this?” and “Can you find guys in three piece suits in the small towns of America?”

God dammit. You have no idea how much time I just wasted googling weaboo and hipster together.
I don’t get the “hipster” classification but the girl is talented. It’s interesting to see her guitar and singing improve with each of her video posts.

Well he’s out of luck if he’s anywhere near my campfire. Then again it’s Rush songs I’d be singing so maybe I’m more of a geek than a hipster.
My lack of concern backs up that feeling.
We’ve been know to break into an acoustic Red Barchetta or Lakeside Park once in a while.
