Happy hour is >>>> over in Cafe Society. Moving from IMHO.
From a large glass filled with ice cubes, through a straw.
From a bottle or fountain, in a glass with ice cubes.
I prefer drinking cola (preferably Pepsi) from a plastic tumbler with ice cubes and no straw. It’s best if the tumbler is soft plastic (the kind that are often given away, or thrown from Mardi Gras floats, and have a recycling emblem on the bottom), but hard plastic is acceptable.
I don’t have any explanation for these preferences, although I think it’s related to how cola was usually (and rarely) served in my family during my childhood.
Cold from the refrigerator, no ice. Ice dilutes it. Coca Cola, R.C., or Double Colas are acceptable.
Side note- Remember canned drinks before pull tabs? We used to poke two holes in the can- one to drink from, and one to let air in. Drank much smoother that way.
Poured out of one of those cute 0.2l bottles you get in Mediterranean places into a glass with a slice of lemon and one ice cube, served after a nice day at the beach. No straw.
Half coke and half ice cold milk.
Tall glass - completely filled with large-ish ice blocks. Pour coke in very slowly.
Drink.
If someone can cosign this, I’m willing to give it a go. Just a single +1.
I prefer my Coca-Cola in a can, not bottle, poured over ice, in a frosted glass, no straw. It’s better savored as a nice treat once in a while, instead of the unlimited refillable thirst quencher delivered in a paper cup that’s sold in fast food restaurants.
If I drink Root Beer it’s the Henry Weinhard brand of bottled Root Beer, straight from the bottle, as long as it’s cold. Cream Soda of the IBC brand is also acceptable as long as it’s cold.
In order of preference:
- Straight from a bottle.
- In a glass, no ice.
- With crushed ice.
Alternate preference: over vanilla ice cream.
If no one is around to be bothered by the sound, I sometimes deliberately slurp it over the edge of the container to get as much foam as possible. The foam is the best part.
Ultimate “pimp-style”? Ice cold, in a frosted tall glass, no ice.
Normally? Straight out of the 20 oz plastic bottle from the deli cooler. Diabetes insists on sugar-free/diet but I do so miss the Pepsi made with sugar in glass bottles from my youth.
Over ice, in my favorite insulated plastic cup. I usually drink a diet store brand (Sam’s zero calorie cola if anyone cares).
I can’t stand straws or drinking out of plastic bottles. Shoving plastic in my mouth makes everything taste like plastic. I have no problem with drinking out of plastic cups, though, so long as they aren’t new ones that never had the mold lubricants washed off. Drinking out of cans per se doesn’t really bother me, but I prefer ice in the drink.
