Do you have post-coronavirus vacation plans?

I had plans to spend time in Jamaica earlier this month, but that got scrapped. We usually go in November, but don’t know if that will happen this year. A lot depends on the other country’s travel restrictions. I can work from home after travel, but can’t afford to quarantine for two weeks in some other country before my vacation even starts. I can’t work remotely from outside the country, dammit.

We were supposed to be in Singapore two weeks ago. I’m hoping to make that my next major trip, someday.

No plans yet, because I don’t really know when things will stabilize. If summer’s a possibility, then I’d like to spend a few days in Montreal, with perhaps a side trip into Quebec. If pushed into autumn, maybe the Smokies, and if it becomes winter before we can do anything, then I’ll look up possibilities on the Atlantic coast that aren’t Florida (I’ve never given much thought, so don’t really know what’s there).

Of course, there’s always camping and quick jaunts for three day weekends, but I don’t consider those vacations.

My dad wants me to come to a family gathering in early October and I probably will be able to make it.

The only actual thing on my bucket list is to reach the bottom of the Grand Canyon and unfortunately I will be out of shape by the time the lockdown is ended, especially since we will be in the throes of summer in Florida and thus long training runs are out. I had planned on doing it…let’s see… actually, today, while it was a decent temperature in both places. If I can get some long walks in in late summer, I might just fly out to Flagstaff for a week in September instead of the 2 week vacation I had planned.

We were planning a long weekend in KC for mid may, but I think Missouri will still be closed then. We were also planning a trip to the mountains in mid June. We will see what is going on then.

We had one trip to Thailand and one to Hungary planned already for this year so they have both been cancelled. We’re not really planning anything much at the moment, it depends on how restrictions are lifted and what kind of quarantine plans are in place. We’d thought about New Zealand or Hawaii again for xmas/new year (been to both locations but not seen all we wanted to) but again, if countries require 14 days quarantine on arrival, that means we won’t be going anywhere at all. There are plenty of places in the UK that we could visit though, so we wont be short of things to do.

Florida panhandle in November. Was supposed to be during Memorial Day week, but that’s out now.

We pushed our Key West vacation out to a year from now. Other wise, we would be in Key West right now.

So far I’ve cancelled Easter in Nice and June in the Dordogne. I’ve been able to bank the flights though, so I’m hoping to go someplace sometime later this year. Just not making any plans to do so right now.

I’m still bookmarking villas on homeaway though. Be prepared and all that.

Pre-COVID-19 I had plans for my mother to come to Barcelona for a few days and we’d spend a weekend in Besalú. Depending on how things go, we may do that or I may spend a week in Cuenca… or both. Or none. My current contract ends at the end of June, so what can I do will depend on what happens with the next one.

Pre COVID-19, I had Yellowstone plans in September too. Even if the bans lift by then, and it looks like they will, chances are we still won’t go, because my wife is immunosuppressed because of a transplant operation. racer72 if you’re interested in my reservations for the Old Faithful Inn or the Lake Yellowstone Hotel, PM me. The cancellation deadlines are in early August and I’m still holding them because there’s still a non-zero chance we’ll go.

My Plan B for travel will be a camping trip, avoiding hotels, to the Four Corners region: Arches National Park, Canyonlands, Natural Bridges, Dead Horse Point State Park, Monument Valley, Goosenecks State Park, and Antelope Canyon. It’s car camping where we’ll sleep in the back of our SUV, quite comfortable albeit a little tight on space. My days of sleeping on the ground are over.

I have several plans; one is to take my kid to Washington DC and NYC, another for me to see my best friend in California, and the third is a trip to Vegas to play poker. For obvious reasons, all are “when it’s safe to do so” timed.

Hell I don’t know. Probably not. Had to cancel our trip to the Gulf in June. I was hoping to be able to do a week somewhere close before the kids go back to school, but it looks like we’ll still be riding this out then. My parents have sent us a couple ideas from VRBO, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea to book and then have to lose the deposit because shit’s still crazy.

We had very tentative plans to go to Georgia (the country) this fall. We had to put the kibosh on that for a number of (non-COVID) related reasons, largely involving my having to quit my job to finally recover from last September’s concussion. My last day was March 4th.

At the time I quit, I figured I’d take a few weeks off and not have any trouble finding another job as soon as I felt better. Things have changed just a tad since then. In any case, I’m glad we went to Mexico the week after I left my job, because we desperately needed the R&R. I have no idea when we are going to be able to go anywhere again. Even a small family gathering this year is seeming overly optimistic.

Ah, Georgia - I do still hope to get back there someday, though.

Until such time, can we assume that it will be on your mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mind?

We have a pre-paid trip to eastern Canada in late July. Fingers crossed that the border will be open by then.
Otherwise we will find out if travel insurance actually works…
Though they may just move the date to a later time.
Anyone know how late in the year the weather is OK for site seeing in Nova Scotia?

Supposed to have gone to law school graduation in 3 weeks. In theory, if CA reopens by then, they will do it in the fall. If that happens, that will likely be our next trip.

There were also plans for 90th birthday party for my mom with all her kids/grands/great-grands over Memorial Day which has been pushed back to July 4. But I don’t really see them lifting restrictions on old people by then, so I think that is less likely.

We reserved a cabin on a lake for one week at the end of June.

We’re in the U.S. and the cabin is in Ontario, Canada. I hope the border opens up by then. :frowning:

Has anyone noticed some airline travel prices have gone way up? I just checked Kayak, and a flight to Bangkok from here is $1846 best price (with three stops!), something you find for around $700 or so eight weeks ago.

If they are not allowed to fill the plane with passengers they have to make up cost another way, so it is perfectly understandable that travel prices rise.
