I would love hanging out in Sherlock’s New York brownstone, hanging out on the roof. Maybe catching a meeting.
But I would totally be hitting on Watson.
Aye, those are the ones. Lovely show. In some ways, better than the original Chesterton. The TV Father Brown is a little more tolerant than in Chesterton’s stories.
(Brilliant writer, and the mysteries deserve their fame as classics…but Chesterton had a nasty vein of anti-Semitism, and a bit too much Catholic chauvinism. The TV series does a better job of celebrating Catholic love, and downplaying Catholic judgementalism.)
Anyway, re the point of the thread, the ensemble, even the old fussbudget, Mrs. McCarthy, are all such fun people to watch, I’d love to be a neighbor of theirs if they were real people. (Of course, I’d probably get murdered…)
OK, I admit it. I’m a Two Broke Girls mark. There. I said it. NO REGRETS!
I like to see Max behaving like a naughty slut, Caroline trying to cope with a life without privilege, Han still being funny despite his role as the token Asian stereotype, Earl recovering from lifelong wages of sin, and Sophie & Oleg being unapologetic fornicators. I also like seeing past comedy masters like Valerie Harper, Sandra Bernhardt, and Andy Dick making their comebacks and crushing it.
The Great British Bake Off was in the news yesterday, and that reminded me I like to watch it because it’s so pleasant. All of the contestants are friendly and cooperative, even when they’re competing against each other. Sue and Mel (the comedians who host the show) are funny and Paul Hollywood’s technical explanations are interesting (even to a non-baker like me).
(Most competition shows, particularly the American ones, are more cutthroat with manufactured drama.)
Edited to add, and another nice thing about The Great British Bake Off is how varied the contestants are. There may be an older grandmother who’s active in the Women’s Institute, but there’s also the young Asian man or the young Bangladeshi mother.
Not me. I would want to, but I would be terrified I would say something monumentally stupid and she would kick my ass. ![]()
Steven Universe is doing this for me now.
I used to watch Psych just for the character interactions.
I feel that way about the books “The Knight” and “The Wizard” (the Knight Wizard series) by Gene Wolfe. After the two books were over I felt like I had lost a friend in the main character, Able. I wish I could read more books about Able because I’d like to just spend more time withe character.
It’s not a tv show or movie, but I listen repeatedly to the Welcome to Night Vale podcast, it holds up to repeated listening amazingly well, in fact, it’s almost a requirement, as it has such a brilliantly layered plot, and certain events mentioned in passing take on new meaning as the storylines (yes, multiple) progress
For example, what seems to be a throwaway gag in the first episode;

listeners.
To start things off, I’ve been asked to read this brief notice:
The City Council announces the opening of a new Dog Park at the corner of Earl and Somerset, near the Ralph’s. They would like to remind everyone that dogs are not allowed in the Dog Park. People are not allowed in the Dog Park.
It is possible you will see Hooded Figures in the Dog Park.
Do not approach them. Do not approach the Dog Park.
The fence is electrified and highly dangerous. Try not to look at the Dog Park, and especially do not look for any period of time at the Hooded Figures. The Dog Park will not harm you.

…is actually paid off in Season 5
Everyone I’ve introduced WTNV to goes through the same stages;
1; this is one wierd town, wierd, creepy and just plain…wrong, what is this place…
2; hmm, actually it’s pretty cool… A little offbeat, but that’s okay
3; All Hail the Mighty Glow Cloud…
4; I wouldn’t be opposed to vacationing there…
5; okay that’s it, I want to live there now! …Even if they do have librarians there…
Me too. I especially enjoyed the Leslie running for city council story line.
