What show are you obessed with?

You know what I’m talking about. You’re somewhere (it could be a funeral for all that matters), and suddenly you start laughing because you remember a funny bit from a show. Or if you’re constantly quoting from, whether it’s appropriate or not. Name a show you can do that with, along with a quote from it. I’ll start. Natural the quote isn’t going to be as funny as actually watching the show.

Conan O’Brian:

Man this can always make me laugh out loud. This show is intelligently low brow… FOR ME TO POOP ON! (don’t even try to make sense of this if you don’t get the joke right away) Here one of their bits that always comes to mind. The bit is that they’ve left their phone lines open during the show so that people can call in with their opinions. One call goes something like this:

"Hey Conan, I love your show. I love watching it while I’m in my bathtub eating toast. I have the toaster right on the side of my tub, so I can get the toast easily.

Hey look, my dog just came in. He’s a little excited… Careful boy, don’t knock over the toaster… Don’t knock over the toaster… (suddenly) OH MY GOD CONAN! MY DOG’S GOT A GUN!!!"

gunshot

At this point, the audience reacts with confusion blending into light laughter…

Yes, I know it’s scary that I can recite the bit, but it’s just so funny.

There, I told you mine. Do you guys have any show like that?

I have seen every episode of ‘Law and Order’ at least 5 times. (thank you A&E).

I have every episode of ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘The X-Files’ on well-worn tape.

I should probably get out more.

Simpson’s:
Marge:“What did you learn about in Sunday school?”
Bart: “Hell!”
Homer: “BART!
Bart: "Well, thats what we learned about! I sure as HELL can’t say we learned about HELL if I can’t say HELL!
Marge:“Well, you’re not in Sunday school anymore.”

Damn straight spooje!

I, too, have seen countless episodes of ‘Law and Order’ on A&E. Furthermore, I know which episode it is within seconds of the opening. Pretty sad, I suppose. But I can still sit for an hour and watch it over and over again.

It’s one of the few newer shows I can do that for.

Damn good show.

I’m not sure I’d say I was obsessed with any of these shows, but I’ll watch reruns of The Simpsons before I’ll watch first run episodes of most other shows. Also, I kind of plan my week around Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I’ve started to do the same for Sex and the City. I’ve also started shorting myself on sleep so that I can watch The Sopranos every night.

Mental note, if I need law advice, contact the guy who’s seen every episode of “Law and Order” 5 times…

** spooje ** and ** CNote ** welcome to the club, we meet every week night at 7 pm (EST) and 11 pm.

I especially like it when A & E run the marathons with it, they always have some neat tie in between. There was one day where they had like 6 shows back to back, that were in sets of 2 connected shows. like when they had the comedy club owner arrested and found NG for murdering his wife (and at the end of the show found a link between the shooter and the club owner), then had done another show with the same character several years later and his next wife had just been shot.

I also have noticed that they use the same actors quit a bit (several of them ended up on the Practice). Last night caught the episode where the yuppie neighbor beat up the homeless guy, and noticed that the actor who portrayed the yuppie was also the guy who portrayed another homeless man charged in a murder in another episode (guess the stock market fell? )

Guys, can I come to the meetings too? Was up until 11 last night watching. As I am every other darn night it’s on. And watch it every weekend when it’s on. There have been times when I’ve watched it twice (same episode) in one day just because there were parts I missed due to intrusions of real life.

And I can quit any time I want, too. Honest. I really really can.

The problem was when they had that ‘Homocide’ tie-in, where the 1st part was on ‘Law and Order’ and the 2nd part was on ‘Homocide’. I never saw the second part, because they don’t show those on A&E. So…

WHO KILLED THE TEENAGE MODEL IN BALTIMORE!!!

“Take it, Big Guy!”

“Yes, the Iron Chef has just added reconstituted octopus eyeballs to this broth, along with crab brains and daikon radish!”

Where else can you find entertainment like this?

Another Law and Order groupie here. Homicide comes on (I think) CNBC sometimes. My other show obsession is Jeopardy. I tape it every day. I must watch it or feel cheated somehow. I hate it when something pre-empts it. And about twice a month some lame “breaking news story” happens during it. Pisses me off!!

Homicide comes on Court TV every night at 8pm Eastern.

And I’m obsessed with L&O, and still obsessed with Homicide. I love/loved them both…I have a picture of the entire cast of Homicide that my friend Susan drew hanging in my living room…it’s one of my favorite possessions.

West Wing

It’s the new E/R for my wife and I.
Allow me to elucidate. Before we were married, when my wife and I first moved in together, we got into this habit of never, under any circumstances, missing E/R on Thursday nights. It was our little idiot box date night. Besides we really did enjoy the show. It started to go downhill a bit (but I’m still riveted to Carter’s drug problem story line) so the tradition waned.
And then the Gods smiled down on all of us vidiots and gave us West Wing. We never miss it, and have been known to rearrange our schedules to see it - “Wednesday night? Free tickets to ‘Caberet’? Front row? Sorry can’t make it. West Wing is on.”
See we don’t have cable. We have a whopping 6 channels to choose from and it is our firm belief that this is the most intelligent and entertaining show on broadcast TV. Toby friggin’ cracks me up.

Um, I think it’s supposed to be un-cool now but somebody must be watching it. I don’t suppose NBC would air a show just because I try to watch it. I find that episodes of Friends will pop into my head at the weirdest times. And I find the word “floopy” fits many situations in my life.

O.K. SoSoMom, we are living parallel lives. I so have a Friends habit. Can I phrase my sentences any more Chandler like?

P.S. Let’s not tell Eve, O.K.?

The Simpsons

Anything from the Star Trek stable.

reruns of Larry Sanders and Seinfeld.

Law and Order.

Always try to see all the above.

Yeah, I am so not going there.

Two Words: West Wing

I’ve been obsessed with this show ever since I saw the pilot episode. The writing, the acting … everything on this show is incredible. I don’t miss this show for anything.

And the season premiere is next week! Whoo-HOO! My mom and I have been trying to figure out the cliffhanger all summer. Any West Wing fans out there have a guess about who got shot?

One of my other favorites is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which I didn’t really like last season until Spike came back. My favorite quote from Spike is actually from an episode of Angel, when he narrates as he watches Angel from a rooftop. That was hilarious! Unfortunately that show hasn’t been as good since Doyle left. He was my favorite character. :frowning:

OK, OK, a quote. Umm … here’s one from “Buffy”:

Angel: “Dear Buffy…” Hmmm. I’m still trying to decide the best way to send my regards.
Spike: Why don’t you rip her lungs out? That might make an impression.
Angel: Lacks… poetry.
Spike: Doesn’t have to. What rhymes with lungs?

Of course, ever since I got Cartoon Network I just have to watch Powerpuff Girls, which also has some great quotes. Hmmm. Methinks I watch a little too much TV.

Since I am TV-less now, I don’t have any current obsessions, but some of my past addictions have been:

Dr. Who (age 15-2?)

Northern Exposure (until Joel left - still taped nearly all the shows and watch re-runs on A&E)

And one that may be unique to me - “Johnny Sokko and his Giant Flying Robot”, possibly the most cheesy monster thing that ever came out of Japan. It combined elements of the worst monster movies with a sort-of live action “Gigantor” story of a boy and his giant robot. I never missed an episode.

Which for some reason reminds me of Ebert’s review of “Double Jeopardy,” after Ashley Judd learns about double jeopardy protection:

“Yeah, it’s always good to get your legal advice from a fellow worker in the prison laundry.”
