I once dreamed I was making an “altered book” (it’s a paper arts thing, which I never have done and at this point have little interest in doing). I put some slices of cheese between the pages and stuck it in the microwave.
After having read this thread yesterday, I dreamt I was watching cricket on TV (that’s not the surreal part, you non cricket comprehenders, you…) and Australia were 6/1012, chasing India’s 1204. Then I was living in a shipping container, by a railway line, near the locomotive depot I used to work at, and some bloke was discussing whether to set up the bar for the party in the depot canteen or in the locker room. Then I was driving (mostly on the wrong side of the road) a blue, late model Ford Falcon (large Australian car) around some unnamed hick town on the NSW south coast. I was navigating by satellite, which involved periodically floating up (in mind, I don’t think I had a body at the time) from the car to a top-down point of view several hundred feet overhead. And every thing was blue tinged.
All this dream crud relates to stuff I’ve done or thought recently. I don’t usually remember this much of it though.
I think my dreams are always surreal, they can seem quite realistic up to the point I answer the phone and it’s a banana or I suddenly shoot magic at somebody.
Just last night I was at an old house, it could have been my grandparents house in Kenosha. I was with people I work with and we were outside. I saw some pretty flowers that looked like black-eyed susans and decided to pick some. As I approached them I saw a lot of golden bees flying around them so I started to back off but then a coworker (whom I’ve had issues with before) yells “Bees! Everybody run!”. Then this huge swarm of bees starts flying after me so I start running. Someone shouts out to head for water but there’s no water anywhere so I try to think of alternatives. If I run into the house the bees would follow me into the house, so I wonder if I’ll have time to run to the house and turn it on. I ran through a whole bunch of scenarios, they actually seemed to be happening each time but I would end up back where I started running from the bees, then I realized that my heart was pounding really hard and I thought “this can’t be good for me, I should wake up” and I did.
I hadn’t remembered a dream of mine in years, but lately I’ve had some I do remember. The one this same week, in which I did fly (but in a sort of floaterplane) and see some real neat-o houses, for example: wish I had a movie of that one or the ability to make it, cos some parts were beautiful if I may say so myself!
I remember at one point, flying over a specific area where white houses with brightly-colored decorations surrounded another house, this one Escher-induced and built on pillars “gee, I didn’t know Glasgow had such cool houses!” Apparently the presence of Escher’s version of Miami in Glasgow didn’t faze me one bit, as I continued dreaming for several more buildings, a landing, a banquet, a dance (a car chase involving muscle cars went through while we were dancing) and dusk.
Anyone have dreams in different drawing styles? Mostly my dreams are photgraphic, so to speak, but I have dreamed in animation, in 2D on paper, complete with paper texture and ink imprint. It was all moving though, and I’d love to be able to achieve the effect in real-life artwork.
I have also dreamed in French, in the LabView programming environment, and in smells.
