Do you "Ignore" other posters? ** NO NAMES **

I like that.

I have two people on my ignore list. The first one I put on because their posts were unrelentingly angry and offered no other use or interest for counterbalance. The other one I added because of the poster’s persistent habit of poking people with a stick for the apparent pleasure of provoking pointless dispute.

There are other posters I routinely scroll past not only their posts but also any responses to their posts. That works reasonably well for most of the posters I don’t want to read. The ones I have on ignore are there because they annoy me excessively.

I’ve never yet put a poster on Ignore.

Yes, there are a couple people here that I ignore. I do it by just skimming over their stupid, stupid posts. The ignore feature just spoiler-boxes someone’s posts, which doesn’t make any sense.

I’ve mentally composed one or two messages to certain people where I would explain to them that they were horrible horrible people, and that I wouldn’t be bothering to engage with them anymore. Then I realized that such a message would make absolutely no sense. If I’m not engaging them, the time to start is now. If I was going to send them a message explaining why I wasn’t engaging them, then they must be worth engaging, or I wouldn’t bother. So I haven’t bothered.

There was one a while back that made the list for twisting almost every post into evangelical god bothering drivel. Then removed a few months later when someone quoted one of their posts and it was of a much saner tone.

There are also posters in particular threads where I just skim over their posts and anyone quoting them in replies, but generally offer good information in other threads.

I ignore a bunch of people. It’s not so much because I don’t want to see their posts, but because I don’t want to get baited into responding. I’m bad at remembering names, so it’s basically a system to tag posters as not worth engaging. I also use a script that just takes these people out of the thread entirely as if they had never posted.

I would prefer a system in which we could just add tags. Maybe there’s a Tampermonkey script for that…

Now I know for sure that I’ll never use the ignore function. If said function does not wipe them completely from view, then to me it’s no more helpful than scrolling.

But I hadn’t really considered using it anyway.

IIRC somebody wrote a script to completely delete posts from your viewing, including quoted posts. I disremember where I read it - maybe ATMB.

I am in what appears to be the mainstream - I have no one on my official Ignore list, nor IIRC have I ever. I have several on my mental “Oh him” - scroll past without reading.

Regards,
Shodan

I Ignore with wild abandon (well, compared to most of the rest of you - the List is currently up to 12, three of whom are Banned) and I love it. Ten out of twelve have been the subject of repeated meta-discussions between other posters along the lines of ‘why does everybody need to keep responding to #NAME# ?? Does this really have to turn into the #NAME# show?’ though I by no means Ignore everyone in this category. One’s a person whose content-free posts I read for years without them ever contributing a positive or original thought to my life, leading to my ultimately wondering … why? Being mean-spirited and negative is a GREAT predictor of whether a person’s going to end up on The List.

It’s very easy to read an individual post of an Ignored poster if you want to - just click ‘show this post’. I’m moved to look at an individual ignored-person-post maybe once every couple of months or so - nothing I have read there has ever tempted me to un-Ignore someone.

Nobody who’s yet posted in this thread is on my List.

I don’t really ignore that many posters, or at least not until after I read their posts.

I have been here since 2001. Since that time, I have used the ignore function exactly twice, the second time only in the past week. So, put me down for “almost never”.

I have 10 people on my list, but 6 of them no longer post (not sure if banned or not). Generally people who frequently post mean or negative things. It worsens my day to read negative stuff to no purpose, and even scrolling past it, I still skim it. If the context of the thread looks like they might be contributing something interesting, I use View Post to read it. If it turns out that they actually contribute a lot, and I was just over-reacting, I take them off ignore. That’s happened a couple of times.

I don’t always pay attention to the name on the post so sometimes I was getting depressed that threads were so negative. Put someone on ignore, and it suddenly becomes clear that it’s mostly just one poster, and the people responding to them. Everyone else is being much more reasonable. It helps me focus on the content that I’m interested in.

Over sixteen years, only six illustrious luminaries have irritated me intensely enough to earn their stupid names a place on my Wall of Plonk, but there are some strong candidates on deck.

One day I tired of suffering fools gladly, and now don’t suffer them at all.

I have no posters on ignore. I don’t believe I ever have used the feature.

I lost my Ignore-virginity just this week.

I don’t know if I can say anything more about it, because I kinda announced in the Pit that I was putting that person on Ignore, so I can’t be 100% anonymous. Mods, what say you?

I put one person on my ignore list ages ago, and I don’t think that individual posts any longer. Now I mostly ignore certain threads rather than individuals. It seems to work for me.

I used it for the first time this week and may now be addicted, I think I’ll add whoever posts next too.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. If you never see me again, fare well!

I’ve had about four total, i think. None of them because of their opinions or augments. I agree that’s what these boards are about so I don’t ignore people I disagree with.

The ones I’ve ignored are the ones who meet my personal test for being a mean person. I appear to have a stricter view of “mean poster” than the “don’t be a jerk” standard. Those are the ones who I have no desire to interact with. Some have been me to me, others to posters I like.

I haven’t ever taken anyone off the list. Like Mr Darcy: “My good opinion of a person, once lost, is lost forever.”

I have 47 names on my ignore list, the vast majority for being right-wing political jerkwads. Then again a lot of them aren’t around anymore and they keep cropping up so who knows how many of them were the same people. I’ve only had 4 people on ignore for being left-wing political jerkwads. There are 10 or so I have on ignore for being obnoxious in general regardless of their political affiliations. Most of them are unique flavors of obnoxiousness, although there are 2 who literally always post incorrect information in GQ, and 2 who constantly insult Americans.
