Do you "Ignore" other posters? ** NO NAMES **

I didn’t even know the function exists.

I certainly skip some threads-but only based on the title not the OP. Heck, I couldn’t name any posters I dislike, probably because this is an internet chat board and life is too short to let strangers consume any of my concern.

So that is my strategy-blissful ignorance!

That happens a lot for you? I’ve seen it happen once, recently. Most of the time, there are at most two people in a row–though maybe many posts from those two people, since they likely got into a fight.

No. I did once several years ago, but then took him off ignore so I could watch the eventual meltdown, which did occur. Since then, nothing.

Certain pit threads appear like that, and a recent ATMB thread was like 75% missing from my perspective

I’m probably too quick to ignore users! :smack:

I have several posters on Ignore, seems like I’ve add most within the past year. Doesn’t really serve much of a purpose though, because I usually lurk without logging in. I only login if I actually want to post something.

This website routinely serves up malware in its ads, so no … the exact opposite of “added value”. I use uBlock Origin & uBlock Origin extras.

Adblockers are not about filtering content I don’t want to see. It’s basic internet safety.

As for the ignore list - no. I consider ignore lists intolerably rude. I used to consider banning people rude, too, but after twenty years, I’m over that. I still don’t like ignore lists.

But I do find myself skimming posts from certain posters, especially when they’re up on their hobby horses.

For most people this type of assessment is itself highly correlated with where they lie on the political spectrum.

Probably less true in your case than in most, since you’re relatively close to the center of the political spectrum (if for no other reason).

That assumes the only discussions that might trigger ignoring are political and Great debates.

One of my ignorées made the list from an MPSIMS thread he started.

It doesn’t assume that the only discussions that might trigger ignoring are political and Great debates (and the like), but it assumes that a pretty high percentage are.

I stand by that assumption.

I’ll bite.

Whenever I find a poster annoying over a long period of time I put them in my ignore list. Currently there is an impressive collection of 51 names on that list.

It’s not as bad as it sounds–that collection has been amassed over many years, and a large quantity of them are long gone, but I never bothered to weed them out. To be honest, there are probably only 10 names that are active these days on that list.

I typically add names to the list for one of three reasons:

  1. One trick pony that is tedious and boring
  2. Annoying blowhard braggart who has to prove how superior they are
  3. Someone who was annoyingly snarky to me for no clear reason

I think reason 2 is the most common one for my list.

I like the Ignore function because I can often see two or three names in some hidden discussion and I know I can safely ignore that part of the thread, but if I want I can peek.

Some people mend their ways and are eventually removed from my list.

One particular individual showed such a clear growth in maturity over a decade that I was really happy to remove that name from my ignore list. However awesome that honor may sound, I didn’t think it would be well received if I said “Just to let you know, I have noticed you are a cool person who stopped being a jerk, and I took you off my ignore list” so they will forever be ignorant of their change in status.

Oh, like that’s a good reason to ignore someone.
