Voyeuristic stuff, for example. I’m a curious guy, but I’d never screw with someone’s privacy, so watching it in a movie gets my “fix”.
Or someone wanting to rob a bank and live a luxurious life, but who either didn’t have the guts to do it, or having the knowledge that you’re going to get caught, and thus, a vicarious thrill by watching movies like them.
I think everyone kind of gets a vaguely voyeuristic thrill out of seeing behind the various curtains of professions/callings/lifestyles that they aren’t part of. That’s why movies about criminals are so popular, and the same about doctors, lawyers, cops, soldiers, etc… even when they’re not high action/suspense. It’s a window into something you normally don’t interact with, and if there’s a sensational aspect to it, so much the better. That’s why we get all the dramatic shows about certain professions, and why we get a slew of somewhat weirder reality shows about others, e.g. “Lone Star Law”, which is a show about Texas game wardens (and is more interesting than you’d think).
I think porn is something different, in that it’s directly intended to stimulate, while something like a “First 48” is more about the cops and what they go through to solve the case. The interest is different for msot people.
I would definitely do everything I see in porn. yeah, sometimes the opportunities are rare. But this is about things you wouldn’t do. I guess some people do that with porn; I don’t.
I was just talking to someone about this… They mentioned “The Silence of the Lambs”, but that was on area I couldn’t even explore in my mind (or Buffalo Bill, lol)…
Porn is completely different. I doubt most people watch more than 5 minutes at a time.
