Second raventhief’s offer to share my experience as a former cutter if you want more perspectives or directions to vent. My reasons were similar; a friend referred to it as ‘getting over the skip in the record’, though the youth of today probably won’t get that reference. A little bit of minor, safe pain and a bump of adrenaline helped stop the whirling thoughts from dragging me down with them, at least for a while. It was never going to be an effective long term solution, but it stopped bad things from getting worse in the short term, and forestalled a lot of potentially big bad things. Also second the value of therapy, though that’s down to getting a good, competent and suitable therapist. Don’t be afraid to seek a different one if the first one doesn’t seem to be working out.
