Do you remember who you argue with in SDMB?

Hey! I resemble that remark!

I tend to not get in arguments on here. Out of all the people I’ve interacted with there is only one that I would never respond to on here again. I’m not sure they actually post anymore though, so it might be a moot point.

No, you are firmly in the category of someone I enjoy arguing with and talking to. The level of stupidity I am talking about is much lower than ours.

Jim

I see a lot of folks interpreted my OP as being strictly focused on the negative; just about people you argue with. It may have come across that way because I shortened the thread title. I meant to include people you agree with, too.

There are certainly a few people whose posts I go out of my way to read (several have already posted in this thread), and a few I avoid, but the vast majority of the time I really can’t remember the history. I honestly don’t know whether Mangetout has outdoor cats or whether Anaamika votes a straight party ticket.

I can finish reading a book and start reading it again without remembering how it goes. This means I don’t really have too much of an opinion about the vast majority of posters. In fact, I normally don’t read the name of the poster when I am going through a thread, unless I am very confused and trying to make some sense of where an argument is going).

That said, there is a handful of regulars here who live in a cloud of general positive feeling, although I cannot tell what is it that I like about them.

And there are two members who I learned to remember so I don’t get baited by them into stupid arguments.

Oh, well in that case, certainly. For example, silenus is a local and a Dodger fan, so I always note whatever he posts with great respect and admiration.

And I notice your posts simply because I’m a huge Isaac Asimov fan.

There are definitely usernames that stand out, but I often can’t remember anything important about the person behind the name.

I’ll rarely even read the names in a thread, unless they garner a visceral reaction (like someone mentioning that they like living in New Jersey, or that Albany is in New York when we all know it’s a Canadian city, or some other foolishness like that). Many very high post count posters fly under my personal radar, unless they hit a subject that has caused a ruckus. For example, I caught a glance of a poster name in the City of Heroes thread that surprised me; I really only notice that poster when s/he’s beating his/her common dead horse.

Has Kalhoun checked in yet??? Heh, Heh… Just kidding! The little shit and I are like this {crosses fingers}

Oh, crap. I didn’t think anyone actually noticed me here. Now I’ve got to start coming up with intelligent stuff to say.

Um…

Crap.

The only person who I can remember distinctly is Liberal, and that’s because his name is descriptive of his beliefs. Other than that, everybody else just sort of blends together. Sorry, guys.

Well, that would be a tough one since I don’t think I’ve ever flat-out stated which way I vote regularly on the boards. Especially since I don’t vote one way regularly!

HEY! I resemble that remark! Them’s fightin’ words!

Being a guest with few posts I can’t respond to the question, fairly.
But I have been reading the SDMB for perhaps a year, and usually read everything, with some exceptions.
I’ve noted that posters who have intense arguments in some threads don’t seem to carry the baggage to another, though a Pit thread will bring out long standing grudges.
More heartening is the oft realisation that the discourse has revealed a “worthy adversary” and maybe even a neccesary foil.
There appears to be a feud that’s personality based (IMO) ongoing between two posters in particular, vitriol out of proportion to statements made. They are both pretty articulate too, surprisingly.

Who’re you, again?

They called me…Mr Glass!!

I live in YOUR capital city and WE make the budget. So nyah, nyah, nyah.

(Yeah right, like we ever have a chance of denying NYC anything!)

You’re in Gracie Mansion (someone has to live there as Bloomberg doesn’t) and help Mike out with budget?

And Albany has been doing a bang-up job of denying NYC education funds, so much so that we had to sue for it, win, and still have to fight for the funds. And let’s not even discuss the per capita disparity in mass transit funds between NYC and any suburbian rail.

Boy, this turned dark really fast. I’ll speak to Mike next time I see him, I promise!

(Yeah right.)

No more griping about you pseudo-Canadians, I promise! Although considering how much travelling Mike does, you’re just as likely to meet him as I am.

I have to admit, I do say ‘Eh’!
