Do you rememeber movies you watched half a year ago?

For instance, can you recall the plot? Or you just forget all of it…

Yes. I remember the Avengers, Spider-Man and the Dark Knight Rises, and I saw those all half a year ago. (Well, to be fair, I have probably watched the Avengers about twenty times since then as well.)

I actually did not get out to any movies over the summer. I did watch a few on TCM, but I could not tell you which specific ones they were (especially as I have a habit of re-watching classic films).

Years ago, before DVDs, and before I got old, I could just about see one random scene from any movie I had ever seen and recount the whole story.

It is much harder with modern CGI laden blockbuster stuff, as their stories are just excuses by which the characters move from set piece to set piece. The Avengers is a good example. I thoroughly enjoyed it, faults and all, but as to story I don’t really have much idea. And if you’d asked me who the villian was yesterday I may not have remembered but happened to see a picture of Tom Hiddleston all Loki’d up today. So now I remember. Sort of, because I don’t recall him doing anything really except making Bond shoot that glass off M’s head or beating up Batman, or was it Spiderman…

Well enough, although that’s about on the cusp of where I could actually watch the movie again and realize I’ve forgotten or missed some stuff. I can’t stand to watch a movie twice in a short time period.

That period, BTW, used to be longer.

Six months? Absolutely. I can pretty easily recall the plots of movies that I really liked and movies that I really didn’t like from ten years ago. It’s the ones that I thought were sort of “eh” that I’m more prone to forgetting.

I’ve found mostly have to watch movies at least twice to really “fix” them in my head. The first time I’m just along for the ride, enjoying whatever’s happening. it’s the second time that I really start paying attention.

But if I don’t enjoy the movie, if I’m just like “meh” it will probably go out of my head.

The blandest movie I saw 6 months ago was Magic Mike, and I remember the plot of that well enough. So yes.

Remember the plots? Hell, I remember the scripts; which scenes would you like me to recite?

I can recall with fairly good detail most movies I’ve seen in theaters going back to when I was a little child. This includes which theater, who I was with, etc. Plots and such are a no brainer.

Movies on TV is a bit trickier. With a VCR, and especially now with a DVR, I watch a lot of movies in semi-fast forward mode. Just checking to see if there’s anything interesting about them and such. On rare occasions I’ll go back a watch without fast forwarding when I am surprised by a movie. E.g., Zero Effect just grabbed me immediately. Which is why I do this, searching for lost gems like that. But most are just junk so I tend not to remember much about them.

But I do remember most stuff about the movies that I intend to watch straight thru and which hold my attention. Mrs. FtG and I do a weekly movie night so those are almost always quite memorable. Even the ones I regret renting like Looper. (So full of stupid and material stolen from other movies!)

If I can remember several key scenes from Boys Town that I saw when I was ~4 years old, I can certainly remember a lot about a movie I watched 6 months ago.
