Do you still carry a wallet? If so, how old are you?

A few months ago I downsized from a fat wallet to this model. Love it.

mmm

I carry one. Same one I’ve had since I was a teenager, given to me by my father some 30 years ago, that I attached a chain I cut from a dog leash to when I was like 15. Still has the chain attached. There’s nothing actually important in it; just very old business cards and some other junk.

My actual cash and cards and things are in one of these things in a different pocket:

When I was checking IDs most of the twenty somethings–at least the men–had wallets.

Yes - why wouldn’t you? Have I missed out on some new development?

Yeah, that was my thought. In the US at least you always need your ID and other stuff (insurance cards, medical cards, credit cards and the like). I don’t have one of those bulky back pocket wallets anymore, I switched to one of the minimalist ones from Ridge a few years ago and I love it. Much more comfortable and not as many back issues with this one (it goes in your front pocket).

I carry 2 but not for cash. I photocopy all my money and keep that on my phone.

Seriously, I do have 2. I split up cards, cash, spare keys and miscellaneous stuff such as medical info. 2 smaller wallets keep things more organized.

Don’t most phone cases of that type have magnetic closures that pose a threat to debit cards?

Anyway, most women’s clothing does not have large enough pockets for a phone in a large enough case to hold all the cards. Then there’s keys, extra masks, hand sanitizer, etc. Purses aren’t going to be obsolete any time soon.

I only carry the essentials nowadays. I got rid of my nice wallet that caused an uncomfortable bulge and opted for a very slim one. Just credit cards (3), my DL, my military ID, Medicare card, Costco card and maybe $40.

I think I’ve seen some that snap shut. As far as the magnetic ones go, I don’t know what it would take to mess up a card. If I see a case that looks like a possibility, though, I’m going to be reading the reviews to see if anyone’s had problems.

Same.

In the future I might graduate to Google Pay for a credit card only. However I don’t believe all stores have access to that. (To be fair, I haven’t checked.)

I still need a wallet for ID and a debit card. (I hardly use the debit card, but some places don’t accept credit cards or charge a fee.)

When I saw the thread I just assumed Millennials had killed wallets, just like they killed breakfast cereals, department stores, Applebees, napkins…

I’ve never liked the lump in my pocket that a wallet or a phone makes, and I haven’t carried a wallet for 30 years. Where I live now there really is no need. I can still stuff a few bills in a pocket or cash a check and no one asks for an ID except on rare occasions. On those occasions, like voting, I just pull an ID out of my car before going in to the building.

I’m 52 and I need to replace my wallet because it’s fraying and coming undone, and my bank card or my driver’s license is liable to slip right through and fall to the ground in some random place.

I’m a 38-year-old woman who carries a man’s bifold wallet with a lot of cash and plastic. (He never saw me coming. Ba-dum tsss!)

Seriously, though, I don’t do larger women’s wallets because I like being able to stuff it in my pocket, even though I usually carry a purse. I wouldn’t be comfortable having things like ID and payment methods only on my phone or any other battery-powered device. (One of the perks of being in the vaccine trial is that I got a business-card-sized vaccine card from the clinic first, before the CDC came out with their stupid-sized version. So now I have the original card in my wallet, and a photo of the CDC card on my phone just in case.) And I always carry enough cash to get myself out of a jam, or spot my idiot coworkers who decide to go out to a cash-only restaurant in a large group when they all have maybe $6.31 in cash between them.

My wallet is about 15 years old now, and it’s held up well. It’s made from a thin nylon material which seems to be tougher than any leather wallet I’ve had. It’s made by a company called Big Skinny; I saw it at a booth at the farmer’s market when I lived in Boston, and I was happy to learn just now when I checked that they’re still in business.

I do sometimes take out just my ID, a credit card or two, and a couple 20s to put in a tiny evening purse, or to tuck between my phone and its case if I’m going for a bike ride. But I’m really bad at remembering to bring things I’ll only need occasionally, so I generally prefer having everything I need at all times.

I should also mention that, aside from de-bulking my wallet, I shifted it’s home from back pocket to front.

Sitting on a wallet - which I’ve done for more than five decades - is a bad idea.

mmm

I folded mine and now it fits fine.

I don’t have a driving license. Don’t have work ID (if I went in to work, I’d be wearing my ID on a lanyard), and don’t need to carry any of the other stuff. I have a debit card, and and oyster card for using public transport in London.

We don’t have a vaccination card, it’s mainly app-based, although to can get a letter instead. We don’t need anything to prove we can access the NHS. I have a couple of museum memberships that are on cards or on my phone, up to me if I add my card to my bag or just use my phone - don’t need it all the time. Don’t currently have any store cards - probably should really - but you can use those on your phone.

I need the oyster card because I have a disabled discount on it (otherwise I could use either my phone or my debit card), and I have the debit card because I prefer not to take my phone out all the time for transactions. It would otherwise be easy for me to not carry any cards at all and just use my phone.

I use a purse and a wallet. Where else does my kindle go but in my purse? Plus, being female, I carry menstrual supplies.

My wallet has my driver’s license, my AAA card, my insurance card, my prescription meds card, my dental insurance card, my car insurance card, my credit and debit cards, loyalty cards and cash.

IMHO, a phone is a thing that hangs on the wall that you use to make phone calls.

I’m 48 and my son is 22 and we both carry a leather tri-fold wallet (it’s a very large wallet, * rimshot *)

I probably could change to one of the minimalist designs since all I really need is my drivers license, debit card, credit card and maybe health insurance and Costco card. Would also make it fit in my front pocket better when it’s not jacket weather. I haven’t put it in my back pocket in many years.

I don’t carry any vaccination proof because it never casually comes up and I’ll grab the card if it’s something where I’ll obviously need it.
