Inspired by the “Back Pocket” thread, how do you carry your cash, cards, etc?
I use a thin leather bi-fold wallet. I much prefer a traditional wallet over a clip of any kind because I don’t like having to unclip my whole stash (as if I carry huge amounts of cash, but bear with me), every time I go to pay for something. Clips also make it more difficult to retreive a particular card, where with my wallet each card has it’s own slot (or hidden compartment, depending on the card).
Bearing in mind that all opinions not in line with mine are dead wrong :p, What IS your wallet?
I have a really old denim-and-leather wallet containing my driver’s license, medical insurance cards, business cards, various store loyalty cards, etc. Basically everything you’d normally keep in a wallet, except money.
For cash and credit/debit cards I use a single-sided metal cigarette case, the kind with an arm. Perfect size for cards and bills folded in half, and nice and thin (about a 1/2 inch). My cards don’t get bent, scratched, or otherwise worn.
I don’t have a wallet per se. I keep my driver’s license in my check book, which I carry in my purse. Folding money goes into a pocket in the purse, useful plastic goes into another pocket, useless plastic goes into a zippered-shut pocket because I rarely need them. I have too much junk to carry around for me to not use a purse, and once you’ve committed to having a purse, you might as well skip the whole “wallet” idea.
I have a purse, all my cards go in the inside pocket. Works out fine, although maybe I should get a wallet? Sometimes the cards fall out if my purse takes a spill.
Front right pocket is my money, change and all bills folded once. The paper money magically stays intact and unmutilated in my pocket. I wear jeans, instead pf pants with slit pockets, which, for unknown reasons, are designed to have the opening at the bottom when sitting down, with the contents sucked out by gravity…
Any cards I might need for that particular outing are loose in my shirt pocket. Never lost one yet. I own a wallet-like thing in which I can carry multiple cards, but it remains at home as a depository of rarely-needed things, and travels with me only on overnight trips.
I have a leather wallet made by Tommy Hilfiger. I bought it years ago because it had lots of card space, not for the name. Turns out, it was a good purchase, as it seems to be indestructible. The leather just gets more malleable, of course, but the stitching is still as tight and intact as when I bought it. I carry my folding money in my front pocket. The wallet is for credit cards and ID crap, punch cards for the local bakery and pizza joint, insurance cards, bus tickets and various membership cards, etc. Living overseas was so much simpler in that regard. I had a credit card, my military ID and my stateside driver’s license and not much else in a simple flip holder.
I have an old black Volcom velcro wallet. It’s getting a bit snaggly so I should probably replace it. I carry it in my front pocket, and it has all my cards in it (I rarely carry any cash).
I hate purses, so I won’t carry one. I never could get the hang of carrying around a bag with my important stuff in it–it causes me too much stress because I’m afraid I’ll set it down and leave it somewhere. Especially since people who carry wallets can keep them with them at all times, but if you carry a purse, it looks weird if you lug it around with you at work or wherever.
Unfortunately my work outfits (dress pants + skirts) don’t have pockets. So I need a purse. I disagree that it looks weird to lug it around, although I don’t generally take it to meetings.
That’s the thing for me: I need to have my important stuff with me at all times, the same as if it would be if I carried a wallet. This is especially true if I don’t have someplace to lock it up. I think at this point in my life, it would be tough to retrain myself to carry any sort of bag, which is very sad since, while I hate “purse” type bags, I love messenger bags and similar.
I was presented with some sort of thin washable paper wallet. Apparently they are trendy or something. Not missing my old bulky faux leather thing, I must admit.
I carry an ultra-thin card-case wallet. I actually have a couple that I was given as gifts (from a friend with a Birchbox addiction).
They look kinda like one-half of a bifold wallet, but with slots for cards on both sides. Can hold 5 or size cards comfortably. It has a middle bit that you can put cash in, but gets bulky and tight if you put more than a few bills in there. I usually just have an emergency $20 or 2 in there. Don’t carry much cash.
I used to carry a more common bifold, but I started using the ultra-thin when I went to a music festival and wanted to go lighter. I realized I didn’t miss any of the value cards, receipts, and assorted junk in my old wallet, so I switched full time.
I am female, but for some reason I have always carried a men’s wallet (in my purse, not in a pocket). My current one is a leather bifold wallet. Although I recently got an RFID blocking case for my credit cards so now I have two items to carry around, which I am not thrilled about. So I may be looking around for another option, although I do like the RFID case.
I use this to combine the wallet and phone. It fits my driver’s license, one ATM card, one Amex card. That’s it.
Haven’t carried a traditional wallet in years. So where is my cash, you ask? Honestly, I almost never have any cash at all with me. If I’m going to/at/or coming back from work, there is usually a couple hundred bucks in twenties in my laptop backpack. I also keep about $200 in twenties in each car, as emergency cash. Other than that, I never actually carry cash. I would say i do less than two cash transactions per week.
