What has I gots in my pocketses? [a bloody big wallet, that's what]

Nothing spoils the lines of a pairs quite as much as a honking fat wallet in your back pocket, or indeed, any pocket. Which makes it a bit of a hassle if you intend to actually have your money and cards with you, seeing as men tend not to have purses. Carrying it in your hand just seems… wrong, somehow.

So, do you put your wallet in your back pocket? If not, where does it go? Or what do you replace your wallet with?

I pretty much always wear a blazer, so it just goes in the inner left pocket (and the cell-phone goes in the inner right pocket).

In the few cases I’m without a blazer, it goes in my back pocket.

(but I have a slim wallet and very rarely carry cash)

No wallet for me.

You know those little paper sleeves that ATM cards come in? They’re big enough to also hold a driver’s license, insurance card, art store discount card, and subway pass.

I went the money clip route a few years ago and haven’t looked back.

I carry:

[ul]
[li]A few bills[/li][li]ATM Card[/li][li]Health insurance card[/li][li]License[/li][li]A couple of business cards[/li][li]Company Amex[/li][/ul]

It’s 5mm thick, and fits in my left front pocket with my keys.

To avoid the unsightly lumps and torn trouser pockets from over stuffed wallets etc I adopted a small card holder wallet for the plastic, drivers license and a few business cards.
Bills and an unmarked security pass for my office go into a bill folder/clip thing. This money clip also also acts as a security device, should I get held up on the street (a not improbable event around here), the money clip can be shown and handed over, the mugger will likely be happy and run off, and I get to keep the plastic and DL (which would be a god awful pain to replace).

Coins being fairly worthless get slung in a jar or draw ASAP.

During the week, I carry my work ID, MetroCard, and a credit card in a thin plastic sleeve. My wallet stays in my briefcase. I carry my wallet in my front pocket other times, but it also is very slim. If I am going out, I use a money clip. Real simple.

i have a slim wallet, a business card case, and a chocolate phone in the left front pocket. Keys go in the right. Since I usually wear cargo shorts, bulges are not an issue.

My wallet is full of junk and is too thick. I think I’ll go the slim-down route.

My wallet goes in either front pocket. It isn’t because of the lines of the pants - I just hate sitting on stuff.

I’m a man with a purse, baby. I’m a diabetic, so I often have to lug around medical supplies. That was my excuse for buying a Filson field bag, into which I dump everything but my money clip, and carry everywhere I go.

My husband uses a money clip. I will do anything to avoid carrying a purse and will put my driver’s lic., credit card, lipstick and xanax in my back pocket and I’m good to go. Do you really need all of those cards with you at all times? Guys, aren’t you nervous about keeping all of your cards and cash in a wallet. Man, you lose that one object and everything is gone!

Yeah, but I’d forget my head if it weren’t attached. I would be forever without the needed card (insurance/license/movie rental/discount shopping club/handgun permit/credit card/debit card) if I had to remember to grab it before I left on an errand. Same thing with keys, no two or three key rings for me that I have to remember to switch out, they’re all on there baby. And I’ll promptly drown if I suddenly fall in a lake and can’t get my wallet and key laden pants off in a timely manner.

oh yeah, wallet; left front (got tired of sitting on the big damn thing) keys; right front.

my husband carries a money clip in his front pocket. when traveling, he also carries a dummy money clip to throw in case of trouble.

I have a trifold leather wallet. I’m out of the ordinary given that I’m a woman and I carry it in my back pocket.

I do have a bag (it’s a Tom Bihn sling bag), but I just prefer to have my wallet with me.

I only buy pants with really big pockets. It works because I don’t care how I look.

This may not work for you.

You’ll get my Timbuk2 shoulder messenger bag (read: murse) when you pry it from my stinking corpse.

But what do you do with it when you’re going out, say, for lunch? Surely you’re not slinging that bag along with you when you go out for a sandwich, or perhaps a business lunch?

:: Put’s some folded up napkins under the other side so that I’m sitting level::

The only business functions where I am out with food and coworkers involve sitting on the floor and drinking. In that case I just put it behind me. When I go to bars or restaurants I put it at my feet. If I really don’t want to be inhibited by it (like dancing at a club or something), I’ll generally just carry a slim wallet in my back pocket. Only a few cards and money and such.

In the past (and a bit now) I’ve been known to wear cargoes and put things in my side pocket. Never wear them to work, though. Not really formal enough. Still, useful to have in a cash-based society that has coins up to $5. A wallet with a coin section is almost essential here.

It can be risky, that’s true. But it’s pretty hard to forget a wallet, after all.
