I carry a wallet with my phone. I’m old and when my kids convinced me to get an iphone, I got a book-book case for it. I was afraid I’d leave it behind because I wasn’t used to keeping track of a phone. Also afraid that the phone would slip out of my hand.
I was used to keeping track of books, though, so I got a case that made the phone look like a book. The plan worked. Pity it’s no longer in stock.
Bigger stuff, I put in my purse. My purse is the glove compartment in my van.
I use a debit card for payments and an oystercard for travel. Don’t need to get my phone out regularly for anything else. so don’t need to walk around with it in my hand (I sometimes do, because I’m using the maps function or sending a what’s app or something).
The “vaccination card” in the UK isn’t actually accepted as proof - you need either the NHS app on your phone or a printed letter the NHS will send to you. But I’ve only needed it a couple of times anyway.
My card case is so small that I don’t notice it in my front pocket. But I really need my coat pockets! Left one has tiny sketchbooks and tiny pencils/pens, and a spare mask; right one has snacks, phone and earbuds.
I dream of summer coming, but then I’ll lose some handy pockets!
Hmmm, will I scour Goodwills tilI I find some sturdy ten-pocket cargo shorts? Or a fishing vest? (I tried “stylish” and “cool” as adjectives, but I just laughed…).
When my son was ~7 I went to Nashville to see a buddy receive a Blues&Roots award. While there I picked up souvenirs for my kids.
I forget what I got my daughter, but I got my son a wallet and a fake driver’s license with Curley’s (the Stooge) picture. He carried the wallet for years, and treasured the fake DL, claiming he’d used it to buy beer.
I’m 60 and female. I carry my phone, the case for which has a hidden compartment that will fit 4 cards. I keep on hand my DL, my health insurance card, my library card and my debit card. I do have a wallet in my card with all my other cards I may need and some cash, but I don’t carry it, it lives in my glove box, I don’t carry a purse.
In the UK, we actually have an NHS app on our phones which stores (amongst other medical records) our vaccine record and acts as a vaccine passport for international travel. The ‘card’ is just a hand written reminder/personal memento, like giving a kid a sweet at the dentist. We don’t have to carry it around or show it to anyone.
It’s not that my phone is small enough to fit in my pocket, it’s that I make sure to buy pants with pockets large enough to fit my phone. I refuse to buy pants with those useless 2” deep pockets.
Yeah, I get it. Old people have ruined the world, what with their wrist watches and hippie music and not buying wallets that you can fit your phone into…
Mine’s either in my wallet or the “badge holder” plastic that also holds my transit card (secured to the outside of the tote I use for commuting), depending on what seems most practical at the time. If it gets forgotten, my library system is nice about letting me check out items using my DL.
I carry TWO wallets in the suitcase I call a purse. One is full of the regular wallet stuff - licenses, debit/credit cards, library, university ID, money, stamps, receipts. The other wallet is for all my health stuff. When you get to be a certain age, and visit the medical people frequently, the health stuff deserves it’s own suitcase wallet.
When I got to the store, I usually just take the first wallet in with me. Oh, and my phone and address book have their own little bag (an IcelandAir courtesy bag) so I can find the stupid phone when it tries to hide in the bottom of the purse.
I haven’t needed to use a physical library card for many years. It’s in an app (StoCard) on my phone that has a bunch of store loyalty cards. All they need to do is scan the barcode.
