Do you think John Rocker may be harmed in NYC

I know all about the 500 police that will be at Shea, when the Braves open their series on Thursday.
And I know about the extra police that will ride the 7 train with Rocker, should he actually do this foolhardy thing.

Perhaps a better question is, “Why does he want to ride that train?” What will it prove? I think the guy’s a complete a**, but I don’t wish any harm upon him.

Please direct me to another thread, if this topic has already been discussed.

There’s no chance that anyone will lay a finger on him. Giuliani’s troops will make sure of that. He’s riding the 7 train because, quite simply, publicity. That redneck moron likes the public eye, no matter how much he says that he despises it.
You know, I really like Giuliani, but sometimes security isn’t necessarily a good thing.

I don’t think he’ll be harmed in New York. I think this because I couldn’t get tickets to any of the games. I was gonna go there and throw a battery at him.

A car battery.

Even if Rocker DID ride the #7 train, nobody in New York would recognize him, unless he had his BRaves uniform on. You’re all overestimating his reconizability factor.

Obviously John Rocker is a jer, and I won’t feel too sorry for him if he gets hit with a few batteries (or even a DIe-Hard). But I grew up in Queens, and I can tell you first hand that the average Mets fans AGREES with virtually everything Rocker said, 100%. He didn’t say a single thing that I didn’t hear a million times, when I was growing up in NEw York.

Blue-collar white male New Yorkers (the guys who make up 90% of the Mets’ fan base) hate gays, foreigners and welfare mothers than Rocker does. Let’s not pretend otherwise.

I hope he is.

This isn’t the Pit, so I’ll refrain from flaming the ass, but I will say that nothing would give me more pleasure to find out he has been knifed by the Mexican and shot by the welfare mother with eight children sitting next to him on the train, thus causing the excess pressure taken up by, hmmmm, mucus? horseshit? and his tiny little pee-wee brain in his poor excuse for a skull.

Check out this link: it’s a “letter” to John Rocker. I nearly peed myself when I first read it:

Please read this. It is just too, too funny (I re-read it while sarching for the link and nearly peed myself again.)

IMHO, this is way wrong. He is, perhaps, the most recognized athlete in the U.S. right now. And PLENTY of fans have seen the interviews of him in street clothes. Plus, he’d be the guy on the train with all the cops around him.

He was just being honest. Why do people have to vilify him?

Check register date and post number.

It’s an idiotic move. He should have riden the train, had photos taken, THEN announce it to the press.

The only beating I want to see him take is when he pitches against the Dodgers and Cardinals.

First, it seems as though enough people have told him not to take the 7, so he won’t.

Of course, the authorities there will try to make sure that nothing happens to him, but moves like limiting buyers to 2 beers instead of 4 – at a time! – don’t exactly seem reassuring to me.

I would just like to add, that although I’m sure there are thousands of racists, etc. amongst the fans of any given sports team anywhere, it is more usual to see groups of fans at Shea Stadium of all possible ethnic backgrounds often even sitting together (yes, shocking, I know!). I wish I could be there now (even a game against the Marlins would do.)

The Braves are playing the Montreal Expos sometime in the near future. I know this because a local DJ encouraged people to “Go to the Big O [Olympic Stadum] and mock the bastard. Just mock the hell out of him.”

he he. i’m near the 7 train in Queens. and if i do see the bastard, nothing’s gonna stop me from spitting in that bastards face. LOSER!

it’ll be nice to finally have someone to pick on in this town.

I think it’s incredibly arrogant of him to waste the NYPD’s time and taxpayer money for this stupid stunt. What an a**hole. As if the police don’t have more important things to do than protect this idiot.

they’ve decided to run his train express if he gets on it, why can’t they do that for me sometimes???

He has every right to say completely idiotic, racist and stupid things. His free speech is just as protected as yours and mine. I also get to excorsize my right to call him a stupid asshole.

No one has the right to hit or hurt him. If I saw him on the train I’d make his ride as miserable as possible, just by sitting next to him and playing rap music really, really loud (and I generally don’t like rap music), but I would not hit him or throw anything at him.

We New Yorkers can be civilized, can’t we? We can show L.A. a thing or two about how sport fans should act.

I kinda feel sorry for Rocker. I don’t agree with what he is saying, but he’s just repeated what he has grown up hearing. He’s just a Southern boy who got in way over his head.

i still want to have the train run xpress at my biddance, rocker or no rocker.

I think John Rocker’s comments were the epitomy of badness in today’s sports, and would gladly condemn him for it, but as a baseball fan in general, I’m gonna be watching the Braves-Mets series closely. I hope Mets fans have a lot of class, and not raise to Rocker’s bait, but rather relish their team in cheers as they sweep the Braves and move into first place in the NL East.

Just have to add… If John Rocker thinks he’s such a bad-ass, let him ride the #7 train alone. No security, no cops, no body guards. Then we’ll see just how tough he really is.

Or better yet, drop his ass off in the middle of Harlem, and let him find his way out. Bet we’d never hear from him again.
