Do you wear a T-shirt under your outer shirt?

Guy. Never. Don’t own one.

I voted “other” because I found the question poorly phrased. If I am wearing a shirt (that is, whenever it is not too hot, I always wear an undershirt (not a T-shirt) under my shirt. But if it is not yet hot enough for just a T-shirt, then I will wear a T-shirt (not an undershirt) under a shirt, intending to take it off when it gets too hot. Or if I am going to my over-air-conditioned office, I will wear a T and carry a shirt to put on when I get there.

Did I really start this thread? Where am I? Who am I? Have the blackouts begun? Is this a black out too?

I voted “Sometimes”:
I always wear a T under my shirt during the colder months.

During the warmer months I wear a singlet* under a long or short-sleeved shirt, sometimes with the shirt front unbuttoned.

When it’s really hot, I go with just a shirt, usually short-sleeved.

  • AKA wifebeater.

You don’t remember borrowing the twenty bucks from me?
That’s ok, I’ll send you my Pal Pal info again.

I voted always, but it’s usually not the white t-shirt though I do have a few. It’s usually a colored t-shirt with some kind of logo or witty saying on it.

Also, many times, at least when I’m not a work, it’s the **ONLY **shirt I wear.

Sometimes. If it’s cold, I’ll wear a t-shirt or a tank top under something. If it’s really cold I’ll wear a tank top, a t-shirt, and the top shirt. If I don’t feel like wearing a bra that day, I’ll wear a tank top instead (like today).

My t-shirts are all white and I have to be careful when I wash them so my dad doesn’t steal them, despite the fact that mine are all v-neck and his are mostly round. It’s really screwed up that we mostly wear the same size of clothes.

It’s too hot and humid in DC summers not to wear a t-shirt under a dress shirt. A wet, clingy dress shirt against sweating skin feels just awful. The t-shirt prevents that and actually helps me feel cooler even though it’s an extra layer. But it has to be a well-fitting t-shirt to wick the moisture away properly.

I also don’t usually wear a tie, so the t-shirt prevents my chest hair from poking up above the topmost button.

Another guy I work with doesn’t wear a t-shirt under his dress shirt, and to make it worse he wears these silky-looking dress shirts with the topmost button undone. He always looks like he’s going to a disco after work.

I tend to sweat easily, and I hate the look of sweat marked shirts, so yes I usually wear a v-necked undershirt.

Male here, voted “sometimes”: I like the feel and look of an undershirt under a long-sleeve button-up shirt. However, the summers here are so hot and humid that I can only go with an undershirt maybe 4 months out of the year. I wear polos and most other shirts sans undershirt the rest of the year.

Exception: if I’m wearing a suit-&-tie ensemble for an event, any time of the year, I’ll wear an undershirt.

Other: I wear a t-shirt in place of a vest when it gets cold.

I always wear a t-shirt (usually a v-neck) underneath dress shirts. Part of that is for comfort, but mostly it’s to keep sweat stains from the underarms of my dress shirts.

In cold weather, I’ll occasionally wear a t-shirt under a long-sleeved casual shirt, just for warmth.

Always. It keeps my shirts from getting underarm stains from either my deodorant or my sweaty pits.

Dunno. I usually only wear “dress” shirts, and most times I wear a T-shirt or a wife-beater. Since I need to lose about 30 lbs since Spring this year, I’m hesitant to add a Michelin-man layer to my body. Also, it can be hot, but so could wearing a jacket, and every man knows what that’s like in the summer.

Generally, yes – slovenlily, no.

I ticked always.

I’m pretty dissatisfied with most of the common brands out there, which seem to wear out, stretch in the collar, get very “sheer”/thin too quickly. I’ve paid a fairly hefty price to find some very solid, comfortable, durable crewneck t-shirts:

I wish they’d open a store in the U.S. like Tyrwhitt has because the shipping and conversion rate make these a very expensive proposition unless I find myself in London.

I don’t wear dress shirts too often. I always wear t-shirts, so the combo must therefore occur. Makes me feel comforted.

Prescription strength anti-perspirant. Put it on at night.

I wore an undershirt all the time 50 pounds ago. I never wear one now that I’m a sexy motherfucker.

I always wear a black T-shirt under my button-down in the winter. It feels dressier, and I have a ton of black T-shirts with goofy things on them, so it’s a good use. In the summer, it is way too hot to do this, so I don’t.

Wore them as a kid but haven’t owned one since my mother stopped buying my clothes.

On reflection - same thing with pyjamas.

Certain shirts look better with one. Also it depends on if I am wearing a jumper over the shirt, I really don’t want to be wearing three layers. I also have a tendency to dance Lindy Hop after work a couple of times a week and I never have two layers for that, I sweat enough as it is during that.
