Is this a trick question?
At this point, I have counted:
Yes - 40
No - 12
and 2 who say they hover.
Yes, this is not scientific by any means, but I believe the 1964/5 study claimed the average “adult” weight is about 140, and thus we should expect about half of us to fall above and half of us to fall under that weight. Other factors (300 pounds over, or 60 pounds under) are not being considered.
It looks like 140 is not average for Doper - so far.
Feel free to keep posting and we’ll see if it changes
Nope
I had a diagnostic procedure done a couple of months ago, and the technician said I was “tiny.”
Yes, I’m over 150.
I mean 140. I am 150.
No - quite a bit under.
Yes.
No.
No.
Sadly “yes.”
It wasn’t asked for, but actual statistics from the Center for Disease Control
Yes
Yep.
If I may ask, what’s the ultimate purpose of this thread? Are you designing Straight Dope Flotation Devices?
Oh, yeah.
No.
No.
This is fundamentally flawed logic, you need to investigate the difference between mean and median.
Even in 1964 this poll wouldn’t illustrate the breakdown as you expect.
My ideal weight is 35 pounds more than 140. And I’m 15 pounds over my ideal weight.
But I’m 6 feet tall, so I’d tower over those silly old fashioned people.
In short, and for ease of counting.
Yes.
yep
Yes.
Yes.
