It was mentioned before, how based on that reality she might have been working under the premise “these people will have it done anyway” and made the ethically wrongful conclusion “better to have it done under controlled circumstances than in the back alley”, rather than dissuade the families. Even sadder is that if it becomes known doctors will refuse and/or report you, then many of those families rather than giving up on the idea will instead simply stop taking their girls before health care professionals at all.
As well it should.
Though ISTM the good Dr. Jasser has a big task in front of him, I can imagine with some of the more traditionalist families/communities his effort may generate a pushback that glosses over the health and welfare of the girls to argue instead about westernizing assimilation.
I don’t believe she disfigures girls because she is evil, or enjoys causing pain and humiliation, I think she and the parents have ignorant religious reasons.
Actually most prostitutes had bound feet. Tiny feet were a more important attribute to their sell-ability than a pretty face. Women with unbound feet were simply considered crude peasants. Their lives consisted of heavy labor and when they married it was too poor men who needed a wife that could work alongside them.
I have always suspected that many of the Christian fanatics of the type that didn’t want girls to be vaccinated against cervical cancer would probably also be in favor of this type of mutilation of their daughters if they thought it would reduce unmarried teenage sexual activity.
This is pretty mean. Yeah, they did use chastity belts during the crusades, but you’re now projecting the female genital mutilation practice that is prsently carried out by Muslims and tribal people in Africa to Christians, despite any evidence that they would do such a thing.
How long has that culture been doing this?
Surely they killed children right and left until they got the procedure figured out.
