Doctor Doom #1

I haven’t read comics in years, but when I heard that Victor von Doom was getting his own title, I ran to the store. Like Ahab from Moby Dick, Doom represents the height of man’s intelligence and arrogance. Not only does he intend to take on the universe by himself, he expects to win.

At first, all appears well in Latveria. But Doom receives a mysterious visit from Kang and starts having visions of a younger, happier version of himself.

Later, an important space station is destroyed and all the evidence points to Doom. In response, the world’s nations declare war on Latveria. Doom surrenders, but it’s clear that no one wants to take him alive.

I’d give the issue 9/10. Art and writing are both pretty good, and I look forward to seeing how Doom responds to the crisis.

Doom HAS stood against the most powerful beings in the universe before…and won.

“None may touch Doom, but that he wishes it.”
