Doctor Who 4x06 - The Doctor's Daughter

The thing is, whilst he’s willing to fight back against large numbers of enemies, he doesn’t kill individuals, unless they’re Daleks. Even when he does kill, it seems to be indirectly, setting of explosions etc, he won’t actually shoot them. Of course this is only from memory so I could be completely wrong, but thats the impression I get.

Wait… Did Jenny regenerate? I thought the magical terraforming, life creating globe thingy brought her back to life. The ‘essence’, for want of a better word, that came out of her mouth looked identical to that which emanated from the globe.

I think I recorded it, I can check again later after the F1 and Footy.

Thats what I assumed. There was none of the bright light you normally get with regeneration, plus she didn’t actually change. Theres no reason why they couldn’t do a proper regeneration so I’d guess it was deliberately shown to be the terraforming gas. Incidently, is it just me or did that not seem like enogh gas to terraform a whole planet, at least not that quickly.

Yes, he does that sometimes. But only defensively. He always offers them one chance to leave. If they agree to go away, he’ll leave them alone. He’ll destroythem only if they ignore the offer, and esue the attack.

The Sycorax, for instance, agreed to leave. And he would have let them leave. It was Harriet Jones who ordered them destroyed. And The Doctor hated her for it.

I agree that she didn’t regenerate. She got a lungful of the magic air before she died, and if it’s powerful enough to terraform an entire planet, we can probably assume it’s powerful enough to heal some damage from a bullet.

I can’t remember the exact episode but Baker Doctor was complicit in the destruction of an entire species and when Romana commented on it said dismissively that they were a race of parasites and deserved no less. Yet the same Doctor wasn’t willing to put two wires together which would have started the chain of events that prevented the Daleks ever being created.

So hypocrisy and a fairly broken moral compass seems to be a constant in the Who universe.

Then again, he did murder an entire species because one of them refused to surrender. (Second Christmas special.)

Which didn’t slip past Donna - in the first episode of S4 when the Adipose children were being beamed up he said “oh they’re just children, they can’t help where they came from” to which Donna said “Makes a change from last time I saw you”, meaning that second xmas special. Obviously the cuteness of the Adipose stayed his hand.

We’re thinking spin-off series, probably aimed at children.

I could believe returning to the series in a later episode (there may even be one this season. I don’t check spoiler sites so I’m just guessing). But I think it would be good if she appeared in an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

If she looks hot enough she might merit an appearance in Torchwood, getting bonked by some alien or another.

Imagine if it had been a four part story, it would have been awesome!

Especially the final reveal that it was only 7 days.

It’s just all too hurried, too quick, too much ‘Doctor talking really fast with some half-arsed explanation of the entire plot’ in order to move things along in the 45 minute format. Martha’s struggle in the quicksand could have been a brilliant cliff-hanger, with the kicker that the fishman dies after rescuing her. Would have been better if he had been poisoned by the sludge, perhaps his glass thing cracked and sludge got in, poisoning his body.

Sometimes I really feel the urge to re-write Doctor Who episodes…
Ep 1 cliffhanger - ‘She’s my daughter!’
Ep 2 cliffhanger - Martha is drowning!
Ep 3 cliffhanger - They shot Jenny!

I’m kinda wondering how a peaceful-coexistence settlement managed to get so many guns after just seven days!

I think it was great the way that the companion works that out and has to explain it to a bewildered Doctor.

Did the revelation have any actual point? It didn’t seem to make much difference whether it had been 7 days or 7 millennia.

Well, yeah. The Doctor was expecting to find ancient ruins that had run out of power generations before, and couldn’t understand why it was still working.

Did anyone else hear the sound of drums TM when he picked up the gun?

Wasn’t that what the master complained about hearing?

My thought was Jack is going to luurve Jenny

Of course, Jenny does not have a Tardis, and is in the future. But there is always the rift…

And I thought she was smokin’. In fact, the Doctor has been keeping me in objects of lust for a while now:

Sophia Myles – Reinette in The Girl in the Fireplace
Carey Mulligan – Sally Sparrow in Blink
Georgia Moffett – Jenny in The Doctors Daughter

Si

Shame there’s a lot less man love in it - Captain Jack is about the most exciting thing we’ve had if you don’t count Mickey (and I don’t - the actor is very sexy in other things I’ve seen him in but not as that character). I’m not even a Capt Jack fan either, so what do I get out of it?

Think I’ll stick to BSG for my boy toys.

She’ll get her own spin-off series, I reckon.
