Doctor Who 4x06 - The Doctor's Daughter

Oh please no, aren’t two enough?

Well, I think so, but the whole Doctor Who thing is a big cash cow for the beeb.

Such crude commercial considerations do not concern a non-profit making, public service broadcaster such as the Beeb. No Sir-ee.

I was a bit confused by the ending - one minute they’re leaning over her on the slab after she came back to life, the next they’re running through the building looking for her. Did she teleport to the shuttle that she flew off in? Or did the editor just get a bit scissor happy and cut out a few too many shots?

Yes I wondered that too - we obviously missed the bit where she said “I’m just going into this shuttle… to use the toilet”.

What about Ross? Ross is nice, we like Ross.

Yes, that’s true. We do indeed like Ross.

Prediction - they already have a plot arc mapped out for Jenny, culminating with the episode *The First Of The Time Lords * in which she goes off and founds New Gallifrey.

The show sure did end like a backdoor pilot. It was Gary Seven all over again.

The showed just aired in the US on the Sci-Fi channel. It was OK and Jenny is surely cute. Tennant is taking at least one year off, so maybe Jenny will get a chance to run the Tardis for 13 adventures.

Now the actor situation is rather odd. She is not only the Daughter of the 5th Doctor and Trillian from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, (classic TV miniseries version) but she is now dating the current Doctor. I kid you not.

So a quick Bio on Georgia Moffett, born on Christmas day in 1984 and had a child when she was 17.

I’m glad that Martha is gone again, I still don’t like her character. I do like Donna Noble though, she is fun and a better actress. Anyone know why there appears to be some hatred of her, mostly from British fans?

Jim

Remember, the Doctor needs to be around for the translation circuit to work and he was on the other side of the complex. Also perhaps it’s not capable of translating bubbles.

She’s best known here for the characters she plays on her sketch-based comedy show, which are almost all loud, agressive and repellent in one way or another. Some people have trouble separating her from that.

Also: she’s not Billie Piper.

I thought that was what Martha was for, a companion so bad that the next one would have to seem better by comparison.

I really liked the Rose Tyler character too, but Donna is an interesting companion and humorously useful.

WotNot: Thank you, that makes some sense.

I got bored of her, especially after all the “Bad Wolf” crap.

I was let down by the reveal, I wanted Bad Wolf to be some cool new menace, and it flopped.

And I’m GLAD  Jenny didn’t regenerate. And of course her last name fits right in with Dr. Who.
And David Tennant is a lucky bastard.

I’d say it was her who was the lucky one, personally.

You mean the standard Tom Baker Who plot where he plops down in the middle of two understaffed military outposts within walking distance waging a bitter war for the entire planet which is otherwise unpopulated?

Oh he is such a douche about that. He doesn’t carry guns but he can jurry-rig a weapon of mass destruction. I thought it was pretty funny how Jenny called him on it.

“you ARE a soldier…and now you got a weapon!” (refering to his sonic screwdriver)
“it’s not a weapon!!”
“you use it to fight back don’t you?”

You got that vibe off “Genesis of the Daleks” too eh?

A question about consistency (I know, I know, but still): the Doctor’s old cut-off hand is in a bottle in the Tardis. I thought that Capn Jack had it at Torchwood?

Quick sloppy summary: (spoilered for anyone who didn’t see it and doesn’t want to know)

Jack took the hand with him when he clung to the exterior of the Tardis to the end of the universe. The Master took the hand to do voodoo with his laser screwdriver and obtain the Doctor’s genetic code. The Doctor must have reclaimed his spare body part from Jack. He probably figured Jack might do something inappropriate with it.
Or maybe that’s just me.

I’m interested to see if Jenny ever turns up again in the future.
