Doctor Who News (Casting SPOILERS!!)

Ooooh. I like the way you think.

The dilemma being that although this would increase the likelihood of an actor willing to do boy-on-boy action it would have an inverse effect on my desire to see it…

I still would like to see what this guy would do with The Doctor but I don’t think they’d go for an Aussie who’s been living in LA.

Indeed. This is the same problem I had with that movie Wilde in '97. Oh, sure, it sounds great in theory to see Jude Law, Michael Sheen and Ioan Gruffudd as Oscar Wilde’s lovers (with a special cameo by RentBoy!Orlando Bloom!), but then you realize this involves naked, sweaty Stephen Fry.

Well to be fair in that film there was far more naked sweaty Jude Law than there was Stephen Fry, but yes it did kind of put a damper on the phwoar factor.

I thought Fry was celibate anyway?

As an old school Who fan I would be happy to see the end of this kissy huggy phase and just stick to good sci fi stories.

My vote is for no sexual action at all, neither boy-girl (my personal preference) or boy-boy.

Not anymore; he’s been with his partner for about 12 years now.

The thing about Stephen Fry is that he’s involved with so many things that filming Doctor Who nine months out of the year would mean giving up a lot of them, only I have a feeling he’d try to keep doing as much as possible and collapse of exhaustion or something.

I’d like to see Paterson Joseph, if the producers think enough people can get over their race issues. IIRC, his character in Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere was supposed to be sort of Doctor-esque.

I vote for Hugh Laurie, playing about midway between Bertie Wooster and House.

I think his current gig pays a lot better though.

Daniel Radcliffe will be done playing Harry Potter by then. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the teeth!

I vote for Michael Sheen.

The surge of so many TVs being switched off at once would probably knock out the national grid.

If Doctor Who would quit falling in love with his companions, they could do boy-boy. As it is, everyone expects a romantic subtext.

Good Lord I misread that - I though you wanted Martin Sheen.:smack:

Hey, Christopher Eccleston kissed John Barrowman.

Nope. Captain Jack kissed him, and he didn’t mind because he’s an open-minded Time Lord. He thought fondly of CJ, but was clearly jealous of him for what’s-her-name’s affections too.

The thing is the original series Doctors never fell in love with their companions at all. I always thought they thought of them fondly, like pets or children. The whole Sarah Jane retcon of how she was abandoned and he was the best man she ever loved was bollocks as far as I was concerned. And this is from someone who had a crush on Liz Sladen for years.

There’s plenty of programmes to watch if you want lots of sex, but IMHO Doctor Who is not the place for it. For starters it’s a family show.

Back to the original topic, I’d like to see Hugh Laurie in the role, but I suspect he has contractual obligations for House and does he even live in the UK anymore?

I’m hoping it ends up being someone nobody has suggested so far, maybe a complete unknown like Tom Baker was when he got the part.

Well, if we are going for younger, what about the kid who played ‘Billy Elliot’? Jamie Bell, I think his name is. He was the only watchable thing on ‘Jumper’.

Well that’s depressing! I wished they’d have at least gotten another season out of him. All these specials annoy me, especially with how they are doing some kind of mini series instead of a new season of Torchwood.

I’d really like to see Dominic Monaghan as the next Doctor.

I’m also wondering if they are going to bother explaining how all the adventures of the Doctor and River Song end up happening in just four specials.

Monaghan could work.

As for the specials, unless they run consecutively i.e. form a series, there is plenty of scope for the River Soong adventures to take place off screen.

It’s also entirely possible that she will feature in one or more of the specials.

I await the Christmas Special with a sense of anticipation and dread, anticipation because I want to see how the meetign with a future Doctor goes and dread because we have the parallel universe Cybermen back.

How? The whole thing was sealed off (again!).

Plus if RTD wants Cybermen why not update the Cybermen in this universe?
