Nah. Too easy.
Okay, I just read the Washington Examiner article and skimmed the Breitbart article so you don’t have to. Nothing salacious in either of them. They cite interviews with numerous (seven?) neighbors, including some HOA board members, who all agree that Paul has been an excellent neighbor. The articles cite the story in USA Today where developer Skaggs said it was about lawn clippings are that Paul was a libertarian asshole and nothing but trouble for the HOA. All the neighbors disagree with that. One of them expressed amazement that Paul mows his own lawn.
Not much said about what kind of neighbor Boucher was, that I noticed, other than being outspokenly and vehemently anti-Trump (and maybe anti-GOP). He posted one tweet about Trump, saying “May Mueller fry his gonads”. Apparently he never did anything that would have led anyone to expect something like this.
As for the speculation that a hard-core libertarian would never fit in at a HOA neighborhood: That’s probably baloney. Getting together with neighbors to form a neighborhood association is exactly the way libertarian neighbors think things ought be done, as opposed to having some Big Brother Central Gummint making laws and telling you what to do.
For example, a popular libertarian talking point has to do with building roads, and the funding thereof: They oppose taxation by a government to do it, but instead prefer that people who want a road should get together, form a local assessment district, and pay for and get the road themselves — which they can then operate as a toll road for all outsiders, if they want.
Or a bad medication effect, or a brain tumor. Depends what his behavior was like before this. If this is new behavior, seek physiological causes first.
Dave the Libertarian disagrees with you.
“People who willingly give up their property rights are far worse than those who are forced into giving up their rights. One is a traitor to liberty, and the other a victim of tyranny. When a HOA comes down on someone who willingly signed their rights away, I have no pity for them because they are getting what they deserve.”
I see that some others who profess libertarian views think HOAs voluntarily entered into are permissible. Maybe it depends on one’s definition of “hard-core”. ![]()
I always thought libertarians were fine with voluntary agreements and contracts and whatnot. Is there really a branch that advocates “sign on the line, then do whatever the hell you want”?
Yeah, pretty much (to the first part). That guy is expressing a personal opinion, and not advocating that HOAs be made illegal. So, in that sense there’s probably room for him under the tent. If he were to advocate making them illegal, that would be different.
Still, I can see many rugged individualist types who want their little homestead in the wilderness saying: I’m not signing no goddam HOA and giving up my freedom!!
OK, but only because you asked. You had two chances to review and alter your post before it became unchangeable by you. (Mods can still change/delete posts at anytime.) Your first option was to use the <Preview Post> button located at the bottom of the Reply to Thread page. The second option would be to take advantage of the few minuts of edit time available after clicking the <Submit Reply> button. The <edit> button would then be displayed near the bottom right of your post. Good luck.
Boucher: Hey Rand? Hey Rand! HEY RAND!
Paul: Eh?
Boucher: IT’S SEVEN IN THE MORNING. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?
Paul: EH?!
Boucher: WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!
Paul: Clipping the lawn.
Boucher: WHAT?!
Paul: CLIPPING!
Boucher tackles the senator from behind: Y’Mean like that?
Paul: ARrrr…no…that’s a Block in the Back…
Boucher: Yeah, well. There ain’t no refs here – hell, we ain’t even playin’ football!
