Does a past bankruptcy affect admittance into medical school?

My roommate is recently facing the prospect of declaring bankruptcy and is frightened that this will hinder his dream of becoming a doctor. Anyone know if this true? Do medical schools examine one’s financial history when you apply? Does a bankruptcy have any impact on getting accepted?

Thanks

Not that I know of. If you don’t pay y9ou don’t get to continue your schooling or receive your degree. Usually you have to pay beofre you attend the school so it’s not as if they think you will skip on the bill after the fact.

That said there are all sorts of financial aid a person can recieve. In addition I was talking with the Dean of Admissions at the University of Chicago at a party (it’s been awhile now but I think that was his title) and asked about people who were worthy of a U of C education but couldn’t afford it. He said that if the University of Chicago spotted a really good student the University would absolutely find a way to see to it that the student could attend. Of course, give the caliber of University of Chicago students you’d have to be stellar indeed to merit that effort from them but I believed him that the university would see to it that someone they wanted could attend.

The upshot of the whole thing is yes…regardless of past problems it is possible (though not guaranteed) that you can go to school.

Bankruptcy used to be almost an act of moral turpitude. No longer. A bankruptcy doesn’t even affect one’s ability to get a law license.
