Does anybody else ever search for themselves?

Using the “Search” function of the SDMB, I mean. Going back to the old threads that one participated in months or years ago.

I realized that I’m actually one of the oldest members here, having signed up in March of 1999. Until recently, I hadn’t posted much, although I check the board frequently.

Anyway, it’s kinda nice to revisit those old threads I participated in. Also makes me realize how many folks aren’t around anymore (although there are TONS of great new folks!).

Anyway, anybody else ever do this, or am I just weird?

I do it all the time. Sometimes I’d have created a thread, and then forgotten about it or been away from the computer for a couple of weeks, and I’m amazed at how many responses I got. Plus it’s nice to revisit.

Because I live in a different timezone, threads I post to often get lost three pages into history by the next day, and I either can’t find them, or can’t remember what the heck they were called, or whatever. So I use the search funtion using my name then.

This search engine is the best I’ve seen for any message-board, by the way. Fast, accurate, and noooooo problems.

Sauron, I brought one back once started by HeatherLee. I must say a few people had a major sh**Tfest when they saw her name again.

I do that to keep track of the threads I’m posting at. It’s much easier than trying to find them in the main lists. I also look up my friends sometimes to see if they’ve come up with anything interesting and havent told me

I do it every so often, and I’m surprised how much I have to look back on.

I just finished doing it for the first time.

But only because a thread in IMHO wondered what the thread to post ratio was.

I do worse. I occasionally search for my screen name in the text of the posts, to see if anyone is talking about me. The first time I did this there was a pit thread with my name in it  When I read it I was very happy (not to mention relieved) to find that a poster had put me in a list of people that the poster admired. I also found a couple of other threads that I hadn’t kept up on which said good things about me. :Insert tearfully happy smilie here:

Heh, I just spent an hour rereading old threads I found by searching for my name and reminiscing.

Wally, Shpaiers, purple cows, and lots and lots of flames.

Jesus, I’m an argumentative little guy, ain’t I?

Ah, good times.

I’ve gone looking for myself. If I should get back before I return, keep me here!

Ah ha! Caught you!

Sauron is the name I originally tried to sign up as. I was wondering about that.

Anyway, yes I do. It’s weird(see guys, I spelled it correctly) to see the difference in how little I used to post and the crap I spew out now. Like this.

Sigh. Yep. I have. I usually end up embarassed.

I do check sometimes… mainly for old threads that I want to look at again or stuff like that… interesting idea Zyada… Glad you found something good

Sometimes I do if I remember a contradiction a poster has made or in confusion. I don’t search for my own name. I was boring enough the first time.

I did it! I even found my name in two threads I had never posted to. One was a poster who said they liked my screen name. The other was this one where CheifScott wrote a song about me.

I had no idea! Funny how little things like that can make you smile all day.

I would look but mine is also a common word so would get too many answers.

Zumba, I just did this & found I was mentioned in the tell me about someone else thread! I hadn’t even posted in that one… Someone knows I exist!

Yup.

Whoa. That’s only 1 1/2 years.
How long has this fine establishment been in business?

Do users mysteriously dissapear if they displease a moderator or Cecil? We are talking Chicago, here.

I’m gonna watch my a–.

Oh, come on, carnie. I recall checking the Straight Dope site before there was a message board. As I recall, when I first signed up, there weren’t many “members” per se; almost all posters were registered guests.

Besides, what are they gonna do, send an electric charge down the T-1 line if I say something like “Eutychus55 sucks” or “UncleBeer bites the big one”? I doubt that. I mean, paranoia is one thi

Sometimes, yes. I post some much pointless shit that it gets lost in the hubbub, so occassionally I’ll go back and see if anyone ever replied.

I can’t search to see if people speak of me behind their backs, though. The reason should be obvious.
