I am male, 37 years old, and for my entire adult life I’ve pretty much been regarded as (pardon the immodesty) extremely bright and creative but too chronically disorganized to really do as much with it as I should. I have now been officially diagnosed with Adult ADD and my doctor has given me two weeks supply of a drug called Strattera. I took the first pill this evening.
So… has anybody here tried this drug? Did you notice any improvement (particularly re: organization and or concentration)? What side effects did you have (the doctor mentioned nausea when starting the supply & I definitely have some queasiness)? Any advice for when to take the pill (my doctor said to take it with food but that otherwise there were no real guidelines)?
Any info appreciated.
My mom took it for a while and HATED it. Didn’t work, for one thing, and made her feel … “weird” I guess. Really messed with her head. (The doc put her on Stattera because she has high BP so the other meds were out of the question.)
If you’re only taking one dose a day, take it in the morning. If two doses, I wouldn’t take the second dose any later than, say, 3pm. Even though Stattera isn’t an amphetamine, it still may keep you up at night if you take it too late in the day.
If the Strattera doesn’t work for you, try Adderall XR (if your health permits it, that is. IANAD. Talk to your doctor). One dose in the morning and you’re good for about 15 hours because it’s time released. It’s a miracle drug; I don’t exaggerate when I say that it has changed my life. I really do wonder what my life would have been like if I’d been diagnosed and medicated 10 years earlier.
