I know Thursdays are for Must See TV for most of the people I know, but I have never seen an episode of Scrubs or Will and Grace, and I just have no desire to start now, regardless of how good they are. I have found a new show to entertain me. I rarely miss an episode of Do Over on the WB. The basic plot has been done before, go back in time and do it all again with the knowledge of what happens in the future, but for some reason this caught me. I don’t roll on the floor with laughter, but it’s amusing enough to capture my attention and keep me going back. Maybe it’s just all the 80s pop culture references, even though some of them aren’t in the right year. (For instance, in last night’s episode, they were going to a Def Leppard concert for Pyromania, which didn’t come out until 1983, but the show takes place in 1981.)
It was funny when Joel dressed as a Ghostbuster for Halloween in 1981 and no one knew who he was.
It was funny to listen to Isabel go on about how Rick Springfield would become bigger than Bruce Springsteen and Joel was in the background shaking his head and snickering.
It was funny when Joel turned in a poem for English class that turned out to be “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
I know the critics haven’t been too kind to the show, but I’ve never listened to them anyway. So should I hide my enjoyment to keep from embarrassing myself? Or are there other closet watchers out there?
