Does anyone here know anyone personally who has been diagnosed, or has been yourself?

I’m at fairly high risk for complications (asthma: a bad cold often leads to secondary infecton, hypertension, obesity, T2DM) so an antiviral is definitely in my future.

They actually prescribed molnupiravir instead of Paxlovid due to some concerns over liver function; the good news is it has no interaction issues (unlike pax, which has a long list); the bad news is it’s not nearly as effective :(.

Aaaaand, my husband’s PCR test just came back positive. Which is no surprise; he woke up with the beginnings of a sore throat this morning, despite negative home tests yesterday and this morning.

Well, rats!

I was given molnupiravir too. Paxlovid has a lot of interactions with other medications.

best wishes.

So I’ve seen. I’m on one (a statin) that I’d have to stop. What’s interesting was that one doctor basicaly said “OH NOES YOU CAN’T TAKE PAXLOVID IF YOU’RE ON A STATIN” where everything else I read says “meh, no big deal. Quit the statin until you’re done”.

Do you think the molnupiravir helped you? How soon did you see any kind of symptom abatement?

I had messages in to my primary care doc office yesterday and heard nothing substantive back - so I finally gave up and went to the nearby ER. In and out in far less time than it took to go to “urgent care” the night before. I didn’t really get different answers - hell, the ER doc was rather a puzzle, as he’d a) never hear of molnupiravir at all, b) was of the opinion that a lot of the improvement was placebo effect, c) didn’t think Paxlovid was good for me (in his case, solely because of the statin, see above), and d) offered to refer me to the monoclonal antibody infusion clinic anyway if I liked.

I figured sure, why not. It turns out the hospital system actually has a COVID care group, that evaluates people wth COVID specifically and treats as appropriate. I may or may not be a candidate for mAbs - the info paperwork specifically says in one place “if you can take oral antivirals, no dice on the mAbs due to supply” but in another, specifically says “if on Paxlovid, can’t be referred”.

I go tomorrow; we’ll see what happens, and at least I feel better knowing that I’m being checked over by people who know COVID and can do something about it. I may need to start some drug-seeking behavior (prednisone, you perverts!) tomorrow or soon after, if my lung crud behaves as it often does with a severe cold.

And as of this morning, my lack of taste is no longer JUST a reflection on my sartorial choices: I had bought some ginger hard candy to help with dry throat, and had one, and I got the sweetness, and the heat, but really did not detect the ginger. I sniffed a grapefruit-scented candle I have on my desk (normally covered up, to avoid nose fatigue) and barely smelled it, also.

Oh yeah: he called his primary care, and they set up a telephone visit with the nurse practitioner, who was supposed to call during the afternoon, but CALLED THE WRONG NUMBER.

He called this morning, set them straight, and set up a call for this afternoon - but I suggested he try a CVS Minute Clinic, which was offering telehealth visits. An hour later, he had a prescription.

We’re watching the other household members. Son (who’s been the household gofer all week) went down to do a PCR test this morning. Housemate will be doing so in the next day or so. And my husband and I are largely isolating in the bedroom (and me, in the spare bedroom which has been my office since our daughter moved out).

I’m on day 4 of symptoms, day 2 of testing positive. My doc just called me, as I had messaged him about testing positive, which he had told me to do when we discussed it in April.

He was on the fence about me needing Paxlovid (it’s his idea, I didn’t insist or ask for it). He said the earlier the better, and I am already feeling better. But he called in the RX anyway. I am obese and have T2 diabetes. I’m going to pick it up in a bit. I’ll stop my statin for a while.

So far I feel ok. It feels like a sinus infection for me, with a fever. Very thankful my lungs seem to be doing well and I already seem to be done with the fever.

That’s…bizarre and somewhat disturbing. Hope the covid center is a little more competent.

raises hand False negative three days ago when I woke up with symptoms. Retested this morning and got two lines. Finally got me :frowning:

One of my sons has had it twice now. My wife’s niece and her entire family have had it. We’ve continued to dodge the bullet since all this started, and just got another booster shot a couple days ago.

The hone tests definitely lag behind the PCR. All of us are having symptoms now and have had negative tests while symptomatic.

Dweezil (our son) is now officially in the club. I expect our housemate will be soon; she just took a PCR test today

Definitely go for it. You’re high risk.
.I had a monoclonal antibody infusion today - which I might not have done if I’d been able to get the better medicine. That was really a non-issue: I literally had it completed within 5 minutes of walking in the door. Only bad part was that the BP cuff hurt my arm so badly that i was literally screaming and trying to tear it off, while the nurse basically forced me to leave it in place. Not surprisingly, my BP registered higher than it has since I had pre-eclampsia - and my whole hand went numb.

I did it! Already had 3/10 doses. Makes my mouth taste terrible, but doesn’t affect the taste of food so that’s good. Sipping on sf Gatorade and sf Kool Aid. Glad to have this drug available to me.

ETA: I got my period too, because that’s how it goes with me when I have any inflammation. That’s probably making me feel as bad or worse than the damn covid.

Sorry, I’m not quite understanding this…

Paxlovid is meant to be taken twice a day for 5 days. So 10 total doses and I have taken 3 of them.

And to be more precise each dose is 3 separate pills. They come in handy pill packs all lined up for you.

For anyone who has trouble swallowing pills and is offered Paxlovid, the pills are very large and not to be crushed. You should ask your doctor for a different solution.

Thanks. I didn’t realize you were referring to Paxlovid. Good luck!

I took it. I had a very minor case. Was it because of the medicine or would it have been minor either way? I have no way of knowing.

I don’t know if it’s helped me or not. The fever and headache are gone - but they were gone before I even started on the stuff. The lungs are about the same.

I did have a monoclonal antibody infusion Saturday - hard to tell about that as well, though my sense of taste / smell (which had disappeared by Friday evening) were back by Sunday evening.

The molnupiravir is, like Paxlovid, 10 doses. It’s 4 capsules - also not to be crushed etc. - so they’re a pain to choke down.

I just found out this morning that my son had been HAVING SYMPTOMS SINCE WEDNESDAY and said nothing about it. Argh.

Housemate tested negative on PCR test Saturday. I’m encouraging her to call her doc for guidance, or at least redo the PCR test, since she’s having COVID-like symptoms and has been for several days.

I had MAB when I first had it back in December. Or at least they tried. I had a bad reaction and thought I was going to die. Found out later when talking to friends and family in the field they most likely administered it wrong.
