Does anyone here know anyone personally who has been diagnosed, or has been yourself?

Updating. Our insurance did finally cover post-covid rehab. My son loved it. THey did some respiratory stuff and strength training. It was a great eight weeks and I do think his breathing was improved but it’s been a year now and he’s still not where his doctor wants him to be. He still can’t walk very far, which totally ruined Halloween for him. It was going to be his last year out trick-or-treating (yes he’s 17 but he’s autistic and socially/emotionally he’s closer to 13) but he couldn’t walk three yards before he broke down.

His insurance runs out next month so I don’t honestly know what we’ll do. I applied for disability for him but I don’t expect it to be approved any time soon if ever. I’m hoping after the first of the year when my work is busier I can get him a gym membership and he can do some training on his own with some of the instruction they gave him at the rehab.

It just still sucks and he’s so scared because even vaxxed he has this phobia of getting covid again and he doesn’t want to be anywhere busy, he’s still not ready to go back to school so senior year is a bust. I fucking hate covid.

My Beloved got back from a trip to Las Vegas last Sunday and a couple of days later tested positive. We took the usual isolation steps but apparently it wasn’t good enough because I just tested positive.

Here’s hoping you both have easy cases!

My wife and I have both had all of the vaccine updates. She caught covid after her third shot.
I haven’t had covid until…

Several days ago I started to develop symptoms (sore muscles and a running nose) Two days ago I tested postive. My wife woke up yesterday with dizziness, and not feeling very well. She tested positive by noon.

So like many things we are in this together. So far we are weak, coughing, fever and listless. I got the antiviral medicine for her, but it is a call between treating her for covid, or not using the pills in order to spare her kidneys.

Be careful out there!

I forgot to mention that my sister, who is fully vaxed, recently got a pretty bad case of Omicron-variant (lab confirmed; she works at a medical school) and was off work for at least a week. She’s doing OK now.

Yesterday, my friend Mona had long range Covid. This morning she stopped breathing.

Csarcasm, I am so sorry!

Do you mean something like Social Security disability? It may be worth bringing in a disability advocate, if he’s turned down - supposedly that substantially increases the odds of being granted. Especially if you think the disability is something they would deem lifelong. It’s something we looked into for my daughter, a while back. Also, by 'insurance runs out" do you mean his health insurance, through some program for minors? Depending on where you live, he may qualify for Medicaid. Which is not GREAT coverage, but better than nothing. Dunno whether that would cover the rehab or not, but for other purposes it would help.

Oh no

Um - can she be referred for monoclonal antibodies? Seems like she’d be a candidate, given the risks of the antivirals.

When I had the 'rona, I was refused Paxlovid due to a history of what appeared to be (on ultrasound) fatty liver; despite years of perfectly-normal liver readings, they refused to give it to me. The protocol hereabouts is that if you get Pax, you are NOT given the mabs, due to supply concerns.

I actually got referred (by an otherwise clueless ER doc) for the mabs; I had molnupiravir, which is somewhat less effective than Paxlovid, but has fewer contraindications. It has a similar “must start within 5 days” requirement. The monoclonals supposedly need to be started within 7 days or so. If your wife is within that window, maybe the doc will refer her for that. I’d definitely recommend pushing for it, if possible.

(I’m also sorry that apparently I can’t spell Czarcasm. But that’s a much more minor issue.)

So sorry to hear this.

Oh no. I am so sorry.

Yeah it’s state insurance and it’s great for the price because everything has been covered except two meds. In Tennessee unless you’re disabled or have a minor under 18 you can’t get it. There are a few exceptions but apparently none of his conditions qualify. I’ll lose my Tenncare too but thankfully I don’t have any conditions requiring meds at this point. He takes so many and has two therapies he will no longer be able to go to. I had applied for the SSDI for minors when he was first diagnosed with autism back when he was little and they turned him down then but I’m hoping when he turns 18 with also having a diagnosis of ADHD, PTSD with psychosis and the issues with long covid maybe he might qualify. The money would be sweet but what I really want is decent health coverage for him. He MAY be able to work some day if we can find a successful treatment for this terrible brain fog. He wants to go to college but right now he can’t remember what he’s just read and he’s failing his senior year even with a 504 allowing him to skip some stuff. He used to be a straight A student and it’s really disheartening for him.

Poor guy!!

I would definitely encourage you to look for a consultant to help with the SSDI application (or appeal of the existing ruling). As I understand it, the sooner you apply, the better in terms of backdating any payments.

My sister and her husband, living near Atlanta, Georgia, have been hit with COVID. They’re isolating at home and doing what they’re supposed to. Of course, I’ve an acquaintance who insists, “They don’t have COVID; they have the flu”. Good grief!

Sorry to hear about your friend, @Czarcasm.

Both stepdaughters have had it the last few weeks. Older stepdaughter works as a CNA in a nursing home, that’s where she got it, a couple of weeks ago. Work didn’t want to pay her for sick time off, saying she had to prove she caught it at work. This was about two weeks ago.

Younger stepdaughter had it last week. Not sure if she caught it at work (call center) or from one of her kids. Her youngest son was home sick from school last Friday. We watched him while she went to work. He’s got allergies and so usually has a cough and sniffles a lot anyway, but this was worse than usual. My wife gave him an at-home COVID test and she said the line was very faint, but visible. But while he didn’t seem to get any worse, his mom did. She tested positive Sunday with a test from a walk-in clinic, and has been out of work all week.

The Missus failed the test yesterday morning. We went straight to the Dr, and got the Paxlovid antiviral pack. She is worse today, but we are hoping the Anti-Viral will start to kick in shortly. Right now, bad cough, bad aches, she said today she is starting to lose her taste.

My friend was just diagnosed for a third time. It has become her annual December tradition. She is in her early 20s and very fit so she should be ok.

I’m pretty much recovered from Covid except for a cough that’s hanging on.
