Does anyone know who I am?

Don’t mean this to descend into a pity party, but I realized that there are several well-known Dopers, and while I don’t have a 10,000+ post count, I’ve been here for 4 years, and have over 1500 posts (counting the posts lost during our Winter of Discontent), yet, I have this strange feeling that no one recognizes my name. Perhaps I’m paranoid…or perhaps the bottle of wine I just drank has something to do with it. Either way… Doper for Life!

Crap…I guess I’ve been here for 5 years+…can’t even subtract now.

It’s The Winter of our Missed Content. Get it?

FWIW, I’ve been here a little longer than you, have almost 4 times as many posts, and nobody knows me, either. It’s OK, I promise.

Sorry, more than 4 times at many posts :p.

I thought I was only around 5,500.

Guys, ya need an effective gimmick! Look at me, the vegemite eating, ginger beer swilling, Tolkien quoting, maximum security prison physician who deals with cutthroats, murderers and thieves with calmness, and the occasional bon mot. It works on so many levels! It would make a great TV series!

Jman, cough up a list of your finest quirks, and we’ll all see what we can cobble together, to make them memorable.

Y’know, a catchy posting name is an asset too!

“Resident materialist prick” works for me. Just identify your strengths, and run with 'em!

Not true, ever since Cisco got Linksys, I have to deal with many issues of their routers and wireless cards when setting a connection to other wireless networks…

Oh, you mean the Cisco SDMB member?
Well, that is not true either Cisco! :stuck_out_tongue:
Sorry Jman, just making you feel bad.

But never fear, I do know that you help many times on the computer problems of dopers, so you are ok.

Well, I’m a giant geek, but that pretty much sums up about 80% of the SDMB. Hmm…I have a spreadsheet of my bowling scores and every roller coaster I’ve ever ridden. I am an avid (and rather successful) amateur photographer (vist my website, in my profile, for examples). I have a thirst for knowledge rivaled by few (I read the encyclopedia for fun), and I am a Cornell U. alumnus (Electrical engineering). Help any? I am a captain in the US Army as well, so I have quite a bit of military knowledge, but I’m still a geek at heart, no matter how much the army hardens me.

I definitely think you’re on to something here, as you are one of the most recognizable posters in my mind…and having the name Qadgop… helps a lot.

Wow…someone really does know me…I feel special now.

Of course I know who you are!

You know where T-burg is!

Did you ever get to the Rongo? It’s now owned by someone I went to high school with.

Motorgirl, Arts '92

I know who you are. :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought that was SentientMeat? Oh, prick. Never mind then. Carry on.

Wow…remembering a post from years ago, perhaps I’m more memorable than I thought. Yes, I did get to the Rongo, although, only once. It did make an impression on me, as they had my favorite beer: Anchor Porter, which is STILL my favorite beer, even after living in Germany for 3 years.

Somehow I think these attentions to detail put you in the upper upper percentile.

And now I will never forget you. Oh, I may forget your name and say “that one guy who kept a spreadsheet of bowling scores and roller coasters” but I’ll at least remember that.

Plus your photographs are lovely, you have quite a talent.

Thank you, Alma, I appreciate that. I’ve come to accept that my photographic talent is actually real, not imagined, since I have won a pretty major contest, and realize that I take some shots that are pretty good.

The bowling / rollercoaster spreadsheet has been quite the talk of many a person, but the bowling came about because for some reason, God blessed me with bowling skill. I’m a 195 average.

Pity party! Whoo hoo! puts up Pity Party decorations

I don’t think I’ve achieved any sort of notoriety, but this place is so big it’s difficult to make an impact. I’m out of the loop on both sides too; every so often I find that everyone seems to know of a poster and I’ll have no idea who they’re talking about.

Well, you’re one of the exceptions. One of these days another crazy pseudo-science (not pseudoscience) experiment is going to pop into my head and I’m going to come looking for you. My wife and I laughed for days at each set of those perfectly characterized drawings.

Hey, look how long I’ve been here, and how many posts I’ve got. I’m still pretty sure most don’t recognize my name, and I have no problem with that. It’s just a message board.

I recognize your name Revtim and I’m new here. I find it easy to remember because it reminds me of Rev Jim from Taxi. You’re also a fairly eclectic and prolific poster like me. So I see your name pop up a lot. You also let us know about the free Opera codes from Opera and the Google IM and that was cool.

Qadgop the Mercotan I easily recognize: he maybe the only person I ever met that knows more about middle-earth than me.

Jman & Cisco: sorry not yet.
