Does anyone *not* think this car is Sweet with a capital S?

I got this baby a couple weeks ago. I think it’s pretty hot, but apparently some of my coworkers think it is “ugly.” WTF?? Unless by “ugly” they mean “crescent fresh, mega-cool sexmobile,” I don’t get it. I think everyone here will agree: this is one fine automobile…right?

Exhibit C: http://www.anet-stl.com/~mrmann1/b951.jpg
Exhibit D: http://www.anet-stl.com/~mrmann1/steve_turbo.jpg

(Note: None of these are actually my car, they just look like it. Especially Exhibit C, but it’s just not a very good angle.)

And for the record, it’s a 1990 Porsche 944 S2.

A lot of Porsche-files do not consider front-engined cars like yours to be “real” Porsches. I like the 944 (as opposed to the previous 924). As for ugly, show your friends a picture of the Pontiac Aztec or Isuzu Vehi-Cross.

BTW, I hope you don’t have a lead foot!

Ugly… nah. Attractive car… nah. I gots no real beef with the way it looks but it don’t completely strike my fancy.

Looks like a Ford Probe.

hahahaha, doesn’t everything though?

Well, I have never really cared for the “shark design” Porsches. In the same price range, I have always prefered maybe a Ferrari 328. But, I wouldn’t call your car ugly, not by any means.

Fairly good-looking, for a Porsche. Isn’t that the car in Risky Business?

Keep in mind that IMHO the pinnacles of automotive style were the '55 Ford Fairlane and the '70 Plymouth Road Runner…

Needs a flame job.
Peace,
mangeorge

Yeah, I like it - but I’m not in love with it

I almost bought a Porsche once too, but then I decided I couldn’t afford the tickets and having my liscense pulled

Crescent fresh?

Crescent fresh?

WTF?

Anyway, the 944 is an ok car. It’s a Porche so that gives it points, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the 911 or the, holy of holys, the 356 Speedster.

YMMV

Fie! For truly Sweet sheetmetal and horsepower, there can only be one:
The Shelby Cobra 289 FIA

This thread may now be closed.

[sub]actually the 944 is one of my fave Porsche styles! Way to go!![/sub]

Well, it’s an okay car. Personally, I think, for looks anyway, my '97 Avenger looks better.

And Mike, that is indeed a sweet ride, but I’ll still take a '67 'Vette, thanks.

C’mon! What about the 427?

–Tim

A flame job AND a blower on the hood. That’d spruce it up.

I must confess, I just don’t like sports cars. My apologies to ricepad, who I think owns a porsche not unlike this one (ain’t that just like us gals, to lump 'em all together when they are probably massive differences betwixt them?)

Tim, while the 427 is indeed a fine engine, IMHO, it is too much for that particular car. Remember, Carroll put the 289 into the FIA entry because of its superior reliability and overall performance. If all you want is raw power, go 427. I like controllable, reliable and beautiful all in one package!
And yes I’ve driven both 427’s and 289’s (replicas of course ;))
…it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine…

Oh, that’s something I got from the show Sifl and Olly on MTV. Funniest darned show at the time, besides the Simpsons of course.

Man…this is a real eye-opener. When I got it, I figured it was universally considered a cool looking ride. I guess I shoulda gone with my 2nd choice, a 94 RX7. Only problem with that is they break down every other day, I hear.

Ooooh, is the 94 RX7 the one that looks like a baby Cobra Daytona??
Y’know, the one with the little bumps in the roof for headroom?
<Droooool>!!!
I saw one painted blue with LeMans stripes…sweeet ride!

My husband had a '94 RX-7 for awhile. No problems at all with it mechanically. It was bright red and attracted the attention of a lot of cops.

He thought it incredibly cool but it was not comfortable to ride in. I personally favor the design of the second-generation series of that particular car.

RX7. Drroooool. Was it a twin turbo? I’d give one of my testicles for a twin turbo RX7.

Have you seen the RX8 Mazda’s showing off? It was previously known as the RX-Evolv, I think.

–Tim

Yeah, twin turbo all the way. It was definitely quicker than the 944, but that’s another reason I didn’t get it (or a 944 turbo): the insurance. Plus, it was red, and I’m a bigger fan of black. Well, I guess it’s decided, then. My next car will be a 94 (or 95) RX7 twin turbo. I guess I shoulda come to the Dope before getting the S2. My bad!

The one in Risky Business was a 928. MUCH faster and more expensive. That one had a V8.

The 944 is pretty nice, but it’s more comparable to a mid-80s RX-7 than the other Porsche models.

Are you dissin’ the Ford Falcon and the Barracuda on purpose?
