Does anyone remember Sinbad /Hercules cartoons?

I remember watching Sinbad and Hercules cartoons in the 60’s. Does anyone remember this? Was there one particular bad guy in these series’, or was the bad guy different for each episode? And didn’t Hercules pal around with a centaur named Newton?

“Herc! Herc!”

I still have the occasional nightmare of that whiny centaur’s voice…

Check out this for some more background.

Hmmm, I don’t remember Sinbad, but I do remember the Arabian Knights from the Banana Splits Adventure Hour.

All hail YesterdayLand!

I remember Sinbad…every time he tightened his belt, he’d get stronger. I guess that’s quicker and less yukcy than swallowing a can of spinach. Sinbad didn’t have a recurring bad guy, but he had a parrot named Salty for his sidekick.

And I remember the Hercules cartoon, but only vaguely. There was a centaur, and a female character whose name I don’t recall.

Don’t forget Rocket Robin Hood!
[sub]Come gather around me. Space travelers surround me. Hark now to the ballad of Rocket Robin Hood.
I may well confound you, astound you, spellbound you, with heroes and villains, the bad and the good.
Watch now as our rockets race here from afar. For now, with our Robin, we live on a star.
Three. Two. One. Blast off!
Band of brothers, marching together. Heads held high in all kinds of weather.
With fiery blasts, our roaring rockets rise, beyond the Earth, beyond the skies!
At the sight of Robin, take your stand, with the gallant leader of our band.
Send a joyous shout throughout the land! For Rocket Robin Hood![/sub]

I remember the cool power ring Hercules had, and most of the theme song for some reason. Mainly that’s because we only had 3 channels and this was marginally less sucky than “Davey and Goliath”.

*Hercules, hero of ancient stories,
Hercules, winner of ancient glories,
Fighting for our rights,
Fighting with his might
With the strength of ten
Ordinary men
(yada yada)
At the sign of … Hercules!"

*That help any?

He did indeed pal around with a centaur named Newton. If I recall, Newton said everything twice. Newton said everything twice.

The main villian was named Daedelus. For some reason I never really understood, Daedelus could fly under his own power. He didn’t need wings made of wax and feathers like the Daedelus of Greek mythology (you know, the father of Icarus).

I also seem to recall a satyr-like creature that hung out with Hercules as well. Maybe he was called Toot, and only communicated by playing on pipes.

I guess I was about 10 when these cartoons were on. Like ElvisL1ves, we only had three channels, and Hercules was definitely less sucky than “Art Linklatter’s House Party!”

I vaguely remember Hercules. There was also a cartoon that came on t.v. around the same time called “Ruff and Ready.”
Also, anyone remember Kimba the White Lion?

What about Wilhelmina the witch? Or Vulcan, whose mask gave him superstrength. It’s been a long time, but I seem to remember they general gave their villains an even rotation. I think Daedelus was just the most memorable.

And besides Newton, there was a Satyr named Toot, a king named Dorian, and a love interest whose name I can’t remember for the life of me. Was it Helena?

If I remember correctly, the theme song for Hercules (speared back into my consciousness by ElvisL1ves) was sung by Johnny Nash who later had a hit with “I Can See Clearly Now.”

Finally, someone else who was annoyed with that voice!

I remember Kimba the White Lion, too…

How about Roger Ramjet? I seem to remember he had a drug problem like Underdog’s.

I only recall one villain in the old Hercules cartoon, but I only saw a few episodes. In each one the evil wizard would do something bad, Hercules would thwart it, and then he would go to the evil wizard’s cave and beat him. I wondered how stupid this wizard was that he didn’t find a new place to live when it became obvious that Hercules would come knocking on his door every time something bad happened.

I recall that the Hercules cartoon came on before school, say around 7:30 a.m. or so, in Atlanta in '82 or '83. ElvisL1ves had the song right, as near as I recall, but we had our own made-up version which I can still sing with vigor:

Hercules, he eats cheese and baloney
Hercules, he is the world’s greatest phony
Fighting for a ride [don’t know what that means, never did]
With a rubber knife,
With the strength of ten
Little paper men!
That’s the [something] of… HERCULES!

(yada yad is) Victory is near so give a mighty cheer at the sight of Hercules.

Villians: The Mask of Vulcan
Deadelus (his cat Dido)
Wiliamena

Fuck I need a life. My memory is like my computer. It’s huge and accurate and I’ve filled it with usless garabge!

I remember him. In the Los Angeles area when I was young, he appeared on Sheriff John’s noontime show (along with Crusader Rabbit and Diver Dan).

Then there’s Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse…and Cool McCool (which was developed by Bob Kane, the creator of Batman). And Gigantor.

Since we’re remembering theme songs, Sinbad’s was:

Sinbad the sailor, sailing the ocean blue
With Salty the parrot by his side, they are a fearless crew
Sinbad the sailor, ready for a fight
(I forgot some of the words) turning wrong to right

Please don’t ask me to sing the theme to Kimba the White Lion…

“Roger Ramjet, he’s our man…
If HE can’t fix it, NO ONE can!”

Ah, sweet youth…
