I have a rescue dog for whom I’ve had a heck of a time finding a new home.
For a bit of background. Rescue societies are organizations that take in animals without homes and foster them in private homes until they find homes, I foster Border Collies in the DFW area. Because I am a sucker I took in a dog who was mistakenly believed to be a Border Collie, but is clearly not. He is a Karelian Bear Dog Mix (probably mixed with Lab).
Unfortunately for me, Karelian Bear Dogs are the anti-Border Collie. They are not ball driven, not active, and are not herding animals. Thus I have forsaken my Border Collie connections and turn to the SDMB.
Mr Light has named the dog “Marty”. Marty is a really good dog. He was severely beaten, and emaciated when I got him. He is no longer hand shy and has put on a considerable bit of weight. However, he is not attractive. This is my biggest problem. Pretty dogs I have no problem adopting out. Unattractive ones linger. Marty isn’t ugly (perhaps a mother’s assessment) but he certainly isn’t pretty. He looks like a cross between a Border Collie and an Elkhound. He would be a perfect do for someone who wants a very mellow animal, but who looks mean, for protection.
He has a wonderful temperament. He just wants to be touched. He’s happy if he’s a foot rest, a pillow, or a just sitting next to you. He is very good with kids, and other dogs.
We will ship anywhere if we believe the home will be a good one. If you know of anyone who may want him my e-mail is: bcmomkathleen@hotmail.com
