Does Anyone Watch America's Best Dance Crew?

I just caught this the first time two weeks ago because So You Think You Can Dance hasn’t returned for the year yet. Since I love almost anything like this (having grown up on Dance Fever), I was willing to give it a try but was concerned that I’d feel all left out if it was only mostly hip hop.

Well, let me tell you that two episodes in and I’m already sorry that I haven’t seen it from the beginning. I adore Shane and Lil’ Mama cracks me up. Her energy is insane. Then you have J.C. to play off of, with his seemingly more uptight Wonder Bread sensibilities (even if that’s not, it’s certainly the image he projects in this – no more *NSync boy band-ness for him).

Out of the crews I’ve registered so far, they really have a lot going for them, from my inept point of view. The ones that worked through the pain can really talk about keepin’ it real. Those guys on skates are also pretty amazing with their abilities in conjunction with the choreography. And if anyone does watch this, was Jamal also on SYTYCD? He so looks like a guy they just had on there.

But the group that’s won my heart is JabbaWockeeZ. I don’t think it’s just their skills, but also their style and innovativeness. What’s not to love with those costumes too? Almost makes me want a zoot suit and completely blank mask. Of course that’ll have to wait behind any purchases of a white silk top hat and tails…

So I’m really looking forward to this upcoming Thursday night. The four that remain will be doing routines to Broadway stuff and I think that’ll be a good stretch for them, while entertaining for us. Last week was a blast as it did a 25 year tribute to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The only thing missing was that no one drew Smooth Criminal to work with. Here they are doing PYT. Hope y’all enjoy it as much I do.

As much as it pains me to admit it… I kinda love this show. Okay, not the 96.375% of it that consists of manufactured drama and Mario Lopez but the actual dancing parts are something great. I love the mask guys and Kaba Modern both. The skate guys have improved so much since the first few episodes–every time they perform they get better and better.

squee! I love this show, and almost started a thread about it, but then thought that perhaps some of the more ahem stuffy types would boo me right out of the Dope. I really love Jabbawockeez, and Kabba Modern used to be my second favorite, but ever since the Thriller episode I’ve developed a lot of love for Breaksk8. Status Quo DID “work through the pain,” though, which means for the rest of the episodes I’ll be bawling because I really don’t want to see anyone go home. (Yeah, I’m overemotional.)

Hey, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one! And needless to say, there’s never a lack for at least one un-stuffy type (read: me) to not boo anyone. Although I think that overall, most folks here are good about not behaving all pretentious. If someone does inappropriately, say like taking a shit in a ICP appreciation thread, there usually called on it by other members and mods alike.

So that said, just enjoy yourself.

As to the next episode, go Wockeez!!! Can’t wait to see what they have planned for us this time. I’m just hope that their synchronizing steps it up a bit. Plus for the following season, I hope there’s more girls represent. I don’t think Fysh and Chicks were quite up to the same standards as most of the rest.

I’m another big fan of the show. My 16yo son kept asking me to watch it and I’ve finally seen all the episodes. I actually voted for Jabbawokees (sp?) a few times. I love those kids.

I also dig Lil’ Mamma - she cracks me up!

They won! (I got the news from my son since my cable and internet are again not working and I’ll have to watch the rerun on MTV)

Yay!
