For those who loved the inaugural addition, the next go around begins on June 19th, 10 PM. EST. And until then, they’ve got the live audition show repeating in heavy rotation. The top 10 crews this year are…

From what all I saw last night, I was absolutely bowled over by the ‘boy band’ -esque Extreme (spelled that way on the air – I’m not sure which is correct and they aren’t the only ones this seems to be the case with) Dance Force and the cohesion of the amusing “It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s” Super Cr3w bunch. Other than that, the inspirational story (and passion) behind Joey and A.S.I.I.D. will be hard not to root for. I also thought Fanny Pa(c)k, the 80s tribute type group, was pretty cool. The only team I was really sorry to see cut was the more theatrical Full Effect (who I felt were phenomenal!), although I thought that the Latinas of Shhh! would’ve been a better choice than the dancer troupe from Rutgers. However, maybe MTV is more interested in the cheerleader look.
One advantage that I think ABDC might have over SYTYCD now is, supposedly, Shane Sparks. According to the other’s message boards, he’s now permanently over here and won’t be back there. Of course, they also say the same thing about Wade Robison. Who knows if that’s true or not, but I noticed Shane’s got something going on with JabbaWockeeZ that they are promoting (kind of a how to walk through program). For what it’s worth.
A disadvantage I saw was the breakdown again into country parts… east and west coast, then midwest and south (I think). The two bookends got 4 crews to pick from, while those in the middle only had three. Considering I felt that Chi Town represented best, that sort of came across as a slam. However, maybe since we’re talking the Biggies here, it’s necessary to do it the other way and I should just be happy there are so many females included in general this season.
Anyway, I can’t wait and considering I’ve been underwhelmed so far on my other favorite (So You Think), I’m thrilled that I’ve already at least got folks to look forward to seeing. Here’s hoping to you being there too. If you tune in, be prepared for an encore that’s not quite up to par by my beloved previous winners and even more straight talk from the judges than you’ll see anywhere else. And I’m just glad that here you can get a real mix of body styles on top of less formal training. It makes it more ‘real’ to me and Og knows, after trying some of the other series I’ve seen, that’s only a good thing.
