Does Cecil get any useable answers in these forums?
If a question enters the site at General Questions, and it catches Cecil’s eye as a worthy pearl oyster ripe for prying open, does he get any leverage from the forum responses?
If so, could we know an example? (So we could glow in the reflected glory.)
Yeah, it’s happened. The followup to the column on toilet plume, discussing the alleged danger of chlorine, came out of posts in this forum. If Little Ed can ever get his butt in gear I want to link the columns directly to the threads discussing them, since the followup adds a lot and I think everyone should get a chance to read your touching expressions of gratitude.

I don’t know if it’s a case of Cecil getting answers from the SDMB or a case of mere mortal minds thinking alike with a great one, but in this week’s column in the newspapers (no link available yet), Cecil debunks the claim that there is a 40-percent increase in violence against women on Super Bowl Sunday. The Teeming Millions did a pretty similar debunking of that canard a few weeks ago in the Disturbed about Feminism thread in Great Debates.
Oh, and by the way, I believe the column Cecil was referring to in the post above was Is chlorine–in any form–a threat to the environment?. In that column, Cecil used a question raised in the toilet plumes thread here.
