Does it bug you when Dopers don't post their location?

So I’m assuming Kn*ckers has an opening. Anyway to apply for that online?

[sub]Wait, Kn*ckers is a chick right?[/sub]

Yeah, a bit.

I’m with you. I find the context of someone’s general location nice to know.

Funny, just in the middle of making plans for a trip (well, hubbie is doing the internet research on hotels, I’m obviously, er, checking the SDMB in case anyone has any good ideas …)

It doesn’t bother me at all if people choose not to post their location - it isn’t like it is mandatory or anything. Most of the joke locations give me a smile.

I like it when they identify their location, but I “meh” when they don’t.

It only annoys me when there are location specific questions asked and no location is indicated.

But other than that I’m Leaffen those guys alone.

Nah, doesn’t bother me. It’d be boring if we were all specific.

I make sure to always mention in my OP or response that I am in NYC if it is pertinent in any way, and occasionally when it is not, because I know it makes it easier for people to answer questions and the like if they know where I am located. Generally speaking though it isn’t important and I like being able to be kind of silly from time to time and the location field is an excellent place to be silly.

Unless the post would be interpreted differently according to location, it probably doesn’t matter. And, at first, the “cute” locations are funny. Then they get old.

But I find it interesting to see where people are, as opposed to where they would like to be. At least I’m not asking, “What’s your sign?”

I changed mine specifically because of leaffan. During the period in the linked thread, anytime he wrote the world “location” he would bold it, and went out of his way to make comments about it in threads.

So I changed mine. I’m due to change it back though. I usually try to have it be a bit informational, but not overly so.

When the post is about their area, and we don’t know where they live, I do a ?HUH?

But mostly I don’t care.

I get sick of having to ask where the hell is this person if it’s relevant to the thread.

I get sick of location-dependent questions and responses without being told where the hell the person is from. I try to always do this specifically in such situations, even though my location field is an easily-googleable compromise. (When it was a boring factual one, it still got overlooked on occassions and I’d sometimes get America-centric responses from others  )

Only on rare occasions, and I appreciate many of the joke locations.

Those non-location Dopers never do that. Just ask 'em. :stuck_out_tongue:

I hate it. It makes me feel completely dislocated.

I like knowing someone’s location. It’s cool to know that you’re conversing from someone from the Halls of Montezuma or the Shores of Tripoli. Is it necessary? No. Is it interesting? Damn right.

I’m indifferent. It’s interesting if it’s a real location; some of the joke ones are amusing, some aren’t. I have my real location listed because, well, I can’t be arsed to think of something better.

The “location-specific question/answer” problem can be solved by (duh) mentioning it in the question/answer, which I’m pretty sure I do when it’s relevant. If you don’t list your location and don’t mention it when needed, well then you’re just a maroon.

Only when they make direct reference to something “around here” and then assume* you know.

*assume = ass + u + me

She is, but I am not, and I don’t think you’d want them after my ass has been in them for the past five years.

There was a poster awhile back who railed about how evil the United States was, yet refused to reveal where he was from. That bugged me.
