I tend to visit the SDMB almost exclusively via my phone, and fully exclusively by way of Tapatalk when on the phone, so I hope the moderators will regard this topic as suitably ATMB.
Regrettably, my tech level is wanting and I’ve been unable to master the Tapatalk medium, as it were. If there’s an ignore function, I’ve failed to find it. I’ve never been a big fan of that particular option, but of late some pretty blatant trollery has inspired me to re-consider.
Any help that clears the “don’t use Tapatalk” bar would be appreciated. I know there’s some genuine ill-will for this particular app, but for better or more probably worse, it’s all I got most of the time.
I found a post on a Tapatalk support forum that said this feature would be implemented in a couple of months, and that was from back in 2014, so you’d think it would be working by now. However, I just tried it on my android tablet running the latest version of Taptalk and couldn’t find any way to get to your ignore list.
If I get some time later I’ll do some more digging.
To be clear, the existing ignore list feature works in Tapatalk–a little too vigorously for my taste. The app erases every trace of the existence of ignored posts, even collapsing the gaps in the numbering sequence.
So, you won’t see the posts, but you won’t even know that they were there. It gets strange if an ignored poster is the OP and you only see responses.
What you can’t do right now is edit your ignore list. Since that is a rare thing for me, I don’t mind going to Safari for that special task.
My technique relies heavily upon the “push buttons and see what happens” method, which has been thus far fruitless. My own research beyond that has also been a bust, so I was hoping a fellow Tapatalker might have already mastered this and could offer a quick tip.
There is a button that is the reply arrow. Or you can select the post and it will highlight. If you select more than one post, they will both highlight and a number will appear at the top showing how many posts you have selected.
Here is where it gets weird. Sometimes it gives an arrow at the top that you can hit and it will open a reply window with all the quotes. Usually, though, that isn’t an option. Once I get more than one post selected, it’s gone. So I will hit any reply button on any post, usually the last one I’m selecting. That will open a reply window with all the quotes.
Editing the quotes down requires ticking the box so they appear as editable text.
To multi-quote, tap on the first post you want to quote.
If you’re holding your phone skinny side up, a bar comes up with “quote” “share” “Web view” and an arrow pointing right.
Tap on the arrow and you get a bar with “Multi-quote”.
If you’re holding it wide side to the top, the bar will include “multi-quote”.
Either way, tap on “multi-quote” and it stores the first post.
Then, tap on the second quote you want and a double ballon pops up on the top bar, to the right.
Tap that, and you get the two quotes in one Reply.
As far as I know, you can only do two quotes in a multi-quote.
That’s how I’ve done it. I’ve not found a way to turn on “Ignore” in tapatalk, so I go on-line using my laptop browser and use the “ignore” function in the User CP.
Once that’s done, the poster is completely ignored. And Tapatalk does it more thoroughly than the lap top browser, which still shows that the ignored poster made a post, but the content is blanked out.
On Tapatalk, the ignored poster just doesn’t exist (unless they are the OP; but even then their post doesn’t show up).
Weird, it doesn’t work that way on my phone. I’m on an Android Samsung Note 3.
I select a post, the bar at the top has a back arrow, a swoopy reply arrow, a thumbs up, and three bullets that lead to other menu choices, but multiquote isn’t on that list.
Hitting the reply arrow immediately opens a reply window with the quote included.
To multiquote, I have to do as I described above - highlight several posts, then hit the reply arrow within one of the posts. Because as soon as it gets more than one selected, I no longer get buttons at the top. I used to get a double balloon, but now it doesn’t do that.
